Introducing the Top 5 Players from the Class of 2024
In this article:
After spending time evaluating and adding players to the rankings, it’s evident the Class of 2024 has some special players in it. Be sure to follow these players over the next few years as they continue to develop and establish their selves at the varsity level.
But the five players listed below stood out the most during the evaluation process. They impressed as freshmen, and they should be even better as sophomores. Here are the Top 5 players from the Class of 2024.
Asher Weiner Asher Weiner 6'5" | 205 lbs | QB Gardner-Edgerton | 2024 KS – Gardner-Edgerton, 6’5”, 205, QB (No. 1)
Weiner comes in as the top dog in this first Class of ’24 rankings update. The Trailblazers favor the run game with their wishbone style offense, but Weiner made some impressive throws when they went to the air. As a freshman he threw for 805 yards and accounted for 14 total touchdowns; helping lead the Trailblazers to a solid 5-3 record. He displays a strong arm with good accuracy on deeper throws, and he can make difficult throws under pressure in the pocket. Weiner already holds an offer from the University of Arkansas, and he could continue to receive more Division I interest as he develops throughout his high school career.
Kaiden Seamster Kaiden Seamster 6'3" | 205 lbs | ATH Chanute | 2024 State KS – Chanute, 6’2”, 185, ATH (No. 2)
The 2nd ranked player in this class showed he could be plugged into just about any skill position on the field in 2020. Seamster saw time at quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive back. He accounted for 445 yards of total offense and seven total touchdowns, with 10 total tackles and one pass breakup. The playmaker did the most damage while under center. Seamster was decisive with his decision making and displayed a quick release. The best part about his snaps at quarterback was that he took care of the football. He showed that he could make several defenders miss when he pulled the ball down to run as well. It will be interesting to see where he lines up this season.
Damon Mesa Damon Mesa 6'0" | 205 lbs | ATH Holcomb | 2024 State KS – Holcomb, 6’0”, 190, WR (No.3)
The top ranked receiver in this class showed out during his freshmen campaign. Mesa played like he’d already had some experience at the varsity level. He was fourth on his team in receiving, with 15 receptions for 190 yards, good for over 12 yards a catch, and he hauled in three receiving touchdowns. In addition to this Mesa also had 135 yards on the ground with one score. He primarily works out of the slot, but he is capable of moving around. Mesa has good hands, and he is a stronger runner after the catch. He can also make plays as a return man.
DaeOnte Mitchell DaeOnte Mitchell 5'11" | 195 lbs | QB Wichita East | 2024 State KS – Wichita East, 6’2”, 190, QB (No. 4)
Mitchell is yet another talented signal caller in a quality group of young quarterbacks. He is arguably the most athletic one out of the bunch. Mitchell had a great freshmen season through the air and on the ground. In 2020 he threw for 875 yards and 16 touchdowns, and he racked up 600 yards and nine touchdowns with his legs. He shows a good feel in the pocket, as he’s aware of defenders coming in, and he is good about keeping his eyes down the field for open receivers. The Blue Aces are in good hands with Mitchell under center.
Braylen Hoobler Braylen Hoobler 5'11" | 195 lbs | LB Eudora | 2024 State KS – Eudora, 5’11”, 175, ATH (No. 5)
Eudora has some intriguing prospects on their roaster and Hoobler is another one that could turn some heads as a sophomore. He’s a physical player that the Cardinals can trust in their backfield and at linebacker. Hoobler was a solid blocker in their wishbone style offense, and he was a sure tackler at linebacker. He’s been gaining momentum heading into this summer, putting together impressive performances at a few combines, and getting stronger in the weight room. Don’t be surprised if this prospect has a breakout year.
