Because this is one of the areas of Florida that never gets the spotlight they deserve, we decided once again to stop in and check on a few rising seniors (2022) this spring.
With schools such as Mitchell and others beginning to make some waves, reaching the playoffs, college coaches have started to shift their recruiting to this area – and they continue to come up with impressive talent.
With June 1 becoming the target date for colleges to once again check student/athletes out, they will find some gems in this region – and today – we bring you five more talented prospects to keep an eye on.
Owen Campione, S/Athlete, 6-0, 180, Land O’Lakes Sunlake. One of the versatile football talents in this class, his grades in the classroom (4.0 GPA) have opened some doors as colleges will now see that he brings versatility to football field – as a nickel, slot and athlete, who works extremely hard to grab the attention. He is a four-sport athlete that coaches respect and promote at every chance.

Chris Pressley Jr., LB/DE/FB, 6-0, 220, Wesley Chapel Wiregrass Ranch. Talk about someone who makes plays and will be a huge asset this coming season, this quality talent combines football skills with off-season work. As a defensive end, he is nearly impossible to block one-on-one, and when he moves out to linebacker, his speed and athleticism gives him an advantage to read plays – and cover out of the backfield. He is also a tremendous special teams performers as well.

Jaylin Thomas, RB/Athlete, 5-10, 185, Zephyrhills: Watch this quality talent play the game and you are blown away at what he brings to the table as a player and as a teammate. Sharing carries last season with standout Zyree Roundtree, look for this to be a special season for this impressive talent who continues to get better – and has used the spring – and will take advantage of the summer to get better. Remember, he is very athletic, so it does not stop at running back for this young man.

Andrew Treto, RB/LB, 5-10, 190, Trinity Mitchell: With a tremendous coaching staff and talented prospects all over the field, Coach Andrew Schmitz (Florida-Georgia All-Star Game Coach for 2022) and the Mustangs may not be the powerhouse they were a year ago, but having this impressive talent on board will certainly go a long way in keeping this team in the spotlight. Treto gives Mitchell a top of the line running back. He rushed for 875 yards in 2020 for a program that reached the region finals. A tough young man who will continue to get college interest – because of the things he brings to the table.

Hunter Young, QB, 5-11, 165, Hudson: After an outstanding season in 2020 – where this quality athlete sparked the offense – making huge plays through the air – the Cobras are in great hands once again. Throwing for 754 yards last season, the experience is certainly in place, and his leadership skills will be needed as this program continues to make a playoff push in 2021.
