Finishing 5-6 with a playoff win over Keystone Heights (40-14) and a season-ending 9-6 setback against Bushnell South Sumter showed Starke-Bradford County’s football team that they can compete, and have the talent to take it one step further in 2021.
As the Tornadoes look back to last season, there is no reason to dwell on losses to 5A power Baker County (33-6), 2A state runner up Jacksonville University Christian (33-22), Live Oak Suwannee (38-20), 1A power Madison County (14-0) and South Sumter in the regular season.
Those losses served a purpose for this program – and that is something that the entire coaching staff believes could be the motivation needed to have a big season.
While the senior class is not large, it is talent – with Sincere Hankerson (DE, 6-2, 203 – 2.6 GPA), Trent Hankerson (Athlete, -5-5, 140 – 2.9 GPA), Nathaniel Smith (OL – 3.162 GPA), Jontez Williams (WR/DB, 6-1, 185 – 2.7 GPA) and talented two-way (RB/LB) standout Isaiah Wilcox (5-10, 170 – 2.5 GPA).
THE TORNADOES ARE YOUNG & TALENTED
While the rising senior class will provide the experience and leadership, it’s the underclassmen, who certainly hold the key to a successful future.
To play off what was learned in 2020, Class of 2023 prospects such as Jarrin Alexander (WR/DB – 2.895 GPA), Bryson Bowen (LB, 5-11, 180 – 3.438 GPA), Gavin Cook (Slot/DB, 5-9, 150 – 3.947 GPA), Cole Crosby (OL, 6-0, 221 – 2.688 GPA), Jayden Luna (OL/DL, 6-1, 210 – 3.125 GPA) and William Lusignan (OL, 6-0, 220 – 3.167 GPA) will be vital to this program.
Also, look for Dejon McBride (DT, 6-3, 215), Jametrius Pringle (WR/DB, 6-1, 150 – 3.333 GPA) and versatile Dayviontae Thompson (DE/RB, 6-2, 235 – 2.682 GPA) to give this program a boost.
When it comes to using every resource available, Coach Tomlinson and the Tornadoes will reach into the Class of 2024, where Torin Brazell (LB, 6-1, 200 – 2.6 GPA), Chason Clark (LB, 6-2, 170 – 3.250 GPA), Chalil Cummings (WR/DB, 6-0, 185 – 3.625 GPA), Devon McBride (LB – 3.778 GPA), Willie Pollard (RB/DB – 2.8 GPA) and quarterback Dae’Jon Shanks (5-10, 175 – 3.0 GPA) are ready to contribute.
