These athletes have had an extended offseason because of covid and look to show how they’ve developed during that time. They have been putting in the work with this extended offseason and are going to showcase their improvements come March 19th. Here are the eight WRs prone for a breakout heading into the spring season.
Maurice Brown 6’2 200 Brother Rice Twitter Highlights
Starting off we’re taking look at Mr. Brown from Brother Rice. He high points the ball and makes the contested catch over the defender. He has a high catch radius which helps him make sideline grabs and once he secures the catch he fights for extra yards. I’ve seen Brown in person at a Legacy 7 on 7 practice and he’s a sight to see. He’s been putting in work this offseason and he’s going to turn heads once the pads come on March 19th.
Sterlen Henton 5’11 190 St. Laurence HS Twitter Highlights
Next up is Mr. Henton from St. Laurence HS. He’s a deep threat that runs by defenders, can make the catch in traffic, and is good in open space. He has an aggressive play style and playmaking abilities which came to light when I saw Henton in person. He’s a competitor and has been putting in the work this offseason to hone his craft. Once he gets his junior film in, expect Henton’s recruiting to raise and gain more traction.
Tucker Miller Tucker Miller 5'9" | 175 lbs | ATH Mount Carmel | 2022 IL 5’9 175 Mt. Carmel Twitter Highlights
Mr. Tucker is from Mt. Carmel HS. He is a speedster who is able to stretch the field vertically and turn the corner while running jet sweeps. When he’s running routes he uses his hard cut to create separation from the defender and once he secures the catch he plants his foot to get upfield. Miller is also used in the return game where he’s able to break them off for huge gains. Overall, once Miller gets his junior film he’s going to gain more traction in the recruiting process.
Adam Alcantar Oak Lawn HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Alcantar is from Oak Lawn HS. He has a quick burst off the line of scrimmage which he utilizes to stack his defender and break them off at the top of the route creating separation. He’s able to make contested catches, lays out for the ball, and fights for extra yards. Not only does he get it done in the passing attack, but he also gets it done in the run game by blocking downfield for his teammates. Overall, the big hump for Alcantar is getting his name out there as he has the skill set to play at the next level.
Ak’Tavion Agee 5’9 165 Marist HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Agee is from Marist HS. He has a quick burst off the line of scrimmage which he uses to burst past the defender while running the corner and 9 route. Once he secures the catch he plats his foot to turn upfield which is where his body control comes into play by staying up after the defender tries to bring him down. Overall, Agee is joining a dominant Marist high school and once the season starts he’s going to prove what he can do.
Malik Armstrong 6’2 165 Minooka HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Armstrong is from Minooka HS. He’s a deadly return man which is where his speed and quick acceleration come to light by reading his blocks for a huge gain. His 9 route is killer which he uses to beat his defenders deep and high points the ball to secure the catch. Overall, Armstrong is a playmaker who fights for extra yards and looks to showcase his skills come March 19th.
Jalen Johnson Jalen Johnson 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Metea Valley | 2022 State IL 6’3 190 Metea Valley HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Johnson is from Metea Valley HS. He is a deep threat that makes contested catches, blocks downfield, and plants his foot to turn upfield once he secures the catch. He’s a name to keep an eye on from last season and with the extended offseason, he’s ready to showcase what he can do. Overall, once he gets his junior season film expect the offers to pile on one after the other.
Ryan Little Ryan Little 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Lockport | 2022 State IL 6’4 190 Lockport Township HS Twitter Highlights
Mr. Little is from Lockport Township HS. He makes the catch in traffic, finds the soft spot in the defense, and lays out for catches. He’s a deep threat that has speed for his size and crack blocks in the running game. Overall, Little is on a loaded Lockport Township team and after showcasing his skills this spring will gain traction in recruiting.
These WRs are in similar boats needing their junior year film before their recruiting takes off. Each of these players has the potential to play at the next level, the only thing that’s missing is the updated film from the spring season that’s starting March 19th.
