Elite Football Combine Stars (Part 1)
In this article:
Every winter and spring, Matt Biermann, the owner of Elite Football Academy in St. Louis, holds an epic combine. This past Saturday (March 6) was no exception. With over 200 players from as far away as Kentucky and Wisconsin, the competition was fierce and tons of players in the classes of 2022, 23, 24 and even 2025s got to show their skills. Here are a few who stood out:
ATH Ryan Wingo, SLUH, 2024
Just a freshman, Wingo exploded onto the scene with a blazing 40 time of 4.37 (electronic) and a 36.5-inch vertical jump. I know the 40 time looks crazy but as a live spectator, I can tell you, you can feel Wingo’s speed and explosion. The freshman dominated the testing circuit and then put on a show in 1 v 1s as well. Former St. Louis Rams great linebacker Mike Jones, now the SLUH head coach, has a star on the rise.
DB Blair Schonhorst Blair Schonhorst 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB CBC | 2022 State MO , CBC, 2022
Schonhorst, who is ranked No. 120 as a WR by Prep Redzone, after the 2020 season flashed elite defensive back skills in drill work. The standout at CBC will be transitioned to a DB in the preseason rankings. His 4.59 40 and 35-inch vertical jump stood out in the testing realm of the combine and displayed just how hard the rising senior has worked this offseason.
RB Jeremiyah Love Jeremiyah Love 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB CBC | 2023 State MO , CBC, 2023
Due to injuries, Love didn’t get much action in 2020 but with the most impressive showing at the Elite Football Combine, he has the joint jumping. Literally. The sophomore broad jumped 10-2’ and had a vert of 40-inches. That is professional-type numbers. He also ran a camp top speed on the short shuttle at 3.9 seconds. Love could get scholarship offers just off those mind-boggling numbers.
TE Kaian Roberts-Day Kaian Roberts-Day 6'4" | 255 lbs | TE Festus | 2022 State MO , Festus, 2022
The big-time college recruit lived up to the hype as the No. 2 ranked TE in the 2022 class. At 6’4, 221, the junior ran a 4.54 40, had a combine best 11’3 broad jump, and vertical jumped 38 inches. Roberts-Day is just an all-around fantastic athlete who could play running back, linebacker, or tight end at any Power 5 school. His performance on Saturday only highlighted his talent more.
LB Nate Ruble Nate Ruble 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB St. Pius X (Festus) | 2022 State MO , St. Pius X, 2022
The No. 2 ranked linebacker in the 2022 class by Prep Redzone after the season showed why he is ranked so high. Putting up one of the elite Power Ball tosses at 41 feet 8 inches, Ruble displayed explosion, burst, strength, and body control. At 6’3 and 215, the rising junior also ran a 4.63 40 yard dash which is speed he also plays with on the field.
