Here are five leading rushers from Class 1A Ranks looking for productive junior seasons to spark their recruitment.
Karsten McKee, 5’11”, 225, Pleasanton – McKee is a bruising runner. He finished his sophomore season with 931 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns. McKee’s workload increased over the course of the season. More than half of his yards gained came in just two games against Troy and Central Heights.
Kyle Werner, 6’0”, 190, Plainville – Plainville ran the ball with extreme prejudice in 2020. Werner racked up 911 yards on the ground and scored 10 rushing touchdowns. It appears his number of carries will increase in 2021 and beyond.
Ja Sasse Ja Sasse 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Smith Center | 2023 KS , 6’1”, 215, Smith Center – Sasse is a thick and powerful fullback. He rushed for 811 yards in his sophomore campaign and scored eight touchdowns. Smith Center has a solid history of producing football talent. He also finished his 2020 season with 79 tackles at linebacker.
Miguel Hernandez, 5’10”, 150, Sublette – Hernandez is a raw talent who will be fun to watch evolve in his last two high school seasons. He had played quarterback and running back for the Larks. Hernandez rushed for 631 yards and threw for 530 yards in just seven games. The Lark sophomore accounted for five touchdowns in Sublette’s lone 2020 win against Stanton County.
Dale Gillespie, 5’10”, 150, Pleasanton – Gillespie is a dual-threat quarterback that college coaches should keep an eye on. He rushed for 367 yards in 2020 and threw for 467 yards. He accounted for 10 touchdowns through the air and five on the ground. He is very poised under center for his age.
