How many carries will Clovis RB Jeston Webskowski Jeston Webskowski 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Clovis | 2021 State NM get against Hobbs?
Webskowski averaged 18.6 carries per game in 2019. However, Clovis also had Chance Harris Chance Harris 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Clovis | 2021 State NM at quarterback. But Harris is now at Colorado State and the Wildcats could employ a quarterback-by-committee strategy. If that’s the case, Webskowski could get 25 or more Carries.
Who’s going to play QB for Artesia?
Our guess is senior Cord Cox Cord Cox 5'10" | 170 lbs | QB Artesia | 2021 State NM , who saw limited action in 2019 with 23 passes attempted as the backup to Clay Houghtaling. He enjoyed a fantastic season with 3,536 yards and 46 touchdowns through the air. Artesia’s spring QB has large shoes to fill. The Artesa-Carlsbad game has been moved to Hobbs High School so fans can attend the game.
How will Miyamura replace QB Cael Stewart?
We’ll start getting answers tonight when Miyamura plays at Piedra Vista. Stewart was one of the top 2022 quarterbacks in the state, but he moved along with his family to St. John, AZ in October. As a result, Miyamura is searching for a suitable replacement.
Will Melrose WR Devon Bailey dominate the 8-man classification again?
Bailey is 6-foot-5, 205 pounds and runs like the wind. Put him on one of the major schools in Class 6A or 5A and he would be the favorite to win the Mr. Football Award. Bailey signed with Eastern New Mexico a month ago. He should enjoy a prolific season.
Is Alamogordo RB Sean Hays Sean Hays 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Alamogordo | 2021 State NM the most underrated player in the state?
Probably. Hays, listed at 6-foot-0, 200 pounds, rushed for over 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2019. But he hasn’t generated much interest on the recruiting trail. Classic under-the-radar prospect. He should play the spring season with a chip on his shoulder.
Is 2022 Jal OL Roger Carreon Roger Carreon 6'5" | 305 lbs | OL Jal | 2022 State NM a legitimate Power 5 prospect?
Looks like it. Carreon has dominated on the camp circuit since last summer. He holds 6 offers and is hearing from Power 5 programs. But coaches understandably want to see how he plays in a real game. That starts Saturday when Jal hosts Loving Saturday at 6 p.m.
How much will Ruidoso miss TE Grant Oberheu Grant Oberheu 6'3" | LB Ruidoso | 2021 State NM ?
Without a doubt, Oberheu was going to be one of the top offensive weapons in the state. But when the COVID pandemic postposed football season to the spring, he decided to enroll early at New Mexico State. Ruidoso has some talent, but they’ll definitely miss Oberheu.
Is there a game in the Albuquerque area this weekend?
Yes. Two, actually. Albuquerque Academy hosts Hope Christian Saturday at 1 p.m. Both are private schools and not part of the APS, so they can play now. In addition, Alamogordo faces Bloomfield at Bernalillo High School. Those games will have to do in Week 1 as we wait for the APS schools to return March 26-27.
Which school appreciates most that football is back?
Well, every school has welcomed back football. But few communities are probably more appreciative than Gallup, headquarters of Navajo Nation. The northwestern region of the state was ravaged by COVID-19, but is now recovering. Gallup hosts Kirtland Central Monday at 6 p.m.
Why was the St. Michael’s-Raton game cancelled?
According to Will Webber of the Santa Fe New Mexican, St. Michael’s had a player test positive for COVID-19. Both Saturday’s schedule game at Raton and next weekend’s game vs. Socorro are cancelled.
