Our new 2022 prospect rankings are live! We will be breaking down our rankings in the coming week’s position by position, diving deep into what made the scouts, including myself, place players where we did. In today’s piece, we will be breaking down the top ten quarterback prospects on our newly released 2022 player rankings. 2022 Quarterbacks 5. [player_tooltip player_id="90913" first="Justin" last="Holmes"] 6’3", 215lbs, Northwestern Lehigh Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/12151237/Justin-Holmes [player_tooltip player_id="90913" first="Justin" last="Holmes"] out of Northwestern Lehigh starts this piece off and is currently ranked as our 92nd overall 2022 prospect. Taking a look at Holmes’ film, a few things stand out. It’s clear he is an athlete who happens to play quarterback for NW Lehigh for whatever the reason may be. This at times comes off as a negative but this can’t be further from the case. Holmes shows off a multitude of traits at quarterback that may excite coaches at the next level. His great frame allows him to absorb hits in the pocket and not be deterred by pressure in his face. He’s got a rocket of an arm and shows off some impressive deep ball accuracy. I’d love to see more timing/rhythm throws that can showcase his decision-making ability, the majority of his production comes from splash plays. His mechanics are stiff and so are his feet when evaluating the entire drop back and release. Holmes has a ton of room to grow as a passer but his contributions to the football team as a whole are why he is a top 100 junior prospect. Holmes displays good vision as a ball carrier and prefers to get downhill in a hurry and build up speed. The kid can play wideout, where he is seen boxing out smaller defenders in the red zone. He even put some kick return reps in his film just to show off. The position I believe Holmes best translates to is outside linebacker. It’s understandable that a player with so much talent should have the ball in his hands as much as possible, but when projecting to the college level, Holmes shows instinctiveness, power, and balance necessary to dominate the edge as a stand-up outside linebacker. 4. [player_tooltip player_id="27605" first="Gavin" last="Miller"] 6’0", 180lbs, West Allegheny Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/10624573/Gavin-Miller Coming in as our fourth best junior quarterback is [player_tooltip player_id="27605" first="Gavin" last="Miller"] out of West Allegheny. I’d like to start off this evaluation by stating that the only thing holding Miller back from being a top-three quarterback prospect in his class is his size compared to his counterparts. His size is not a problem by any means. [player_tooltip player_id="27605" first="Gavin" last="Miller"] displays some of the cleanest mechanics and footwork Pennsylvania has to offer. Absolutely love how attached his eyes are to his feet. His feet are quick but not so much so that they throw him off rhythm. He moves his feet with a purpose, making sure he is squared up at all times and also moving subtly to open up passing lanes in front of him by moving his launch point. He keeps his off-hand tight and to the chest upon release, which helps keep his balls within target. These mechanics are also consistent when on the move which is difficult to find at the high school level. Has awesome hip-fire to really dart balls into tight windows. Has no problem following through and staying in the pocket while taking blows from defenders. The sum of these traits is good all-around accuracy at all levels of the field. Love the natural feel Miller has for the position and to make matters worse for opposing coaches, Miller can be a threat to score with his legs when inside the 20. The sky’s the limit for this kid. 3. [player_tooltip player_id="27663" first="Ethan" last="Kohler"] 6’2", 205lbs, Perkiomen Valley Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/7771011/Ethan-Kohler [player_tooltip player_id="27663" first="Ethan" last="Kohler"] is the first full-package quarterback to be evaluated thus far. Kohler brings the same clean pre-throw set up as [player_tooltip player_id="27605" first="Gavin" last="Miller"] but stands at just under 6’3 and 220 pounds. The leader of the Perkiomen Valley offense scored 23 total touchdowns this past season, throwing for just under 1500 yards, 16 passing touchdowns to just one interception. Kohler is a tough player behind center and even tougher when finishing runs. He is underrated as a runner and as an athlete as a whole. He’s long-limbed and a bit awkward when taking off but loves to fight for extra yards. He compiled 185 yards on the ground along with 7 total rushing touchdowns. If there is such a thing as a prototypical quarterback, you’ve got that in Kohler. 2. [player_tooltip player_id="87822" first="Collin" last="Quintano"] 6’2", 185lbs, Notre Dame Green Pond Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/8107698/Collin-Quintano A highly productive and highly consistent prospect, Quintano takes the second spot as Pennsylvania’s 33rd ranked junior. In just 8 games, Quintano threw for 1856 yards, 20 total touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Quintano shines as a decision-maker as he shows he is in complete control of the offense. He can be described as the second total package on this list as he displays a quick release, good accuracy, good timing on all throws, and an inept ability to make the correct reads quickly. There aren’t too many routes he can’t hit. Has the anticipation to throw open receivers and the timing down to hit crossers, hitches, and out routes in rhythm. He goes through progressions seamlessly when given a clean pocket, and has even shown the ability to move defenders away from desired targets with his eyes or his feet. He’s also a capable runner, often escaping to find first downs, but he would definitely prefer to beat you in the pocket with his arm. 1. [player_tooltip player_id="27576" first="Beau" last="Pribula"] 6’2", 205lbs, Central York Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/8871943/Beau-Pribula Last in this piece, but first on our quarterback rankings is Central York and Penn State commit [player_tooltip player_id="27576" first="Beau" last="Pribula"]. The Player of the Year candidate will more than likely contend for that title again this coming season, so long as he continues to put up prolific numbers and lead his team deep into the PIAA tourney, which was the case this past fall. Accumulating 2100+ passing yards, 500+ rushing yards, and 48 total touchdowns, Pribula provided a ton of film to dissect. Pribula showed accuracy at every level as well as on the run. The Central York offense wants to keep Pribula in the gun and spread his weapons around to attack all three levels, which Pribula is more than accustomed to doing. He’s also asked to run RPO’s and zone-reads from shotgun which he excels at, giving his future Penn State coaches versatility to work with. Pribula presents an ideal muscular/compact build suitable for next-level contact, as well as good enough height standing at 6’2". The best word to describe his game is special. He excels at making splash plays, whether it be taking a scramble 75-yards to the house, showing great acceleration and open field vision, or flashing awesome pocket awareness and extending plays to throw dimes downfield. Its the abundance of special plays that has Pribula ranked as the 11th overall junior prospect, the number one Dual-Threat prospect in Pennsylvania, and potential back-to-back Player-of-the-Year contender.
