With so many negatives going on around all of us this past year, there were several high school football players who turned that adversity into something positive, and memorable.
With several athletes having career seasons, the only thing to do now is strike while the iron is hot – and that is something that college coaches are anxious to watch.
Whether it be quarterback passing yards, sacks, rushing yards and touchdowns, and interceptions and tackles, this season was indeed good to some premier prospects who are firmly on the radar screen.
Today, we give you five difference makers who are ready to play off 2020 as a springboard for the future:
2022 – A.J. Cottrill A.J. Cottrill LB Tampa Jesuit | 2022 FL , LB, Tampa Jesuit. When you play for one of the best teams in the state, there are certain standards that have to be met by each and every player – and there is no doubting that this past season, here is someone who was all over the field, making plays and keeping this program in the mix until a last-minute field goal did them in and once again ended the season. But watching this standout perform, his 209 tackles not only led the team and area, but was the best in the state and among the best nationally. Big time football player. Has a 4.29 GPA as well.

2023 – Cormani McClain, DB/WR, Lakeland Lake Gibson. Easily one of the top athletes in this class – with the ability to get it done on both sides of the ball, using his speed, athletic ability and size to create mismatches. Has the opportunity to go against impressive talent every day in practice – thanks to what head coach Robert Paxia and the Braves have on this gifted roster. Finished with nine interceptions this past season. By the way, he is also getting it done in the classroom.

2024 – Zay McDaniel, RB, Wewahitchka. Just when teammate Alex Williams Alex Williams RB Wewahithka | 2022 FL chalked up 1,754 yards and 10 touchdowns, many felt that things could not get any better. Add in this freshman, who finished with 1,626 yards and 10 touchdowns – and you have someone who will be a force over the next three seasons. You watch him run the ball and forget that he’s just a freshman. This program has a 1-2 punch that will be making noise in 2021.

2022 – Cade Roberts, WR, Santa Rosa Beach South Walton. After finishing his junior year with an amazing 1,350 receiving yards, the attention is squarely on this impressive football talent who is an outstanding route runner and currently holds some quality offers. Watch this young man perform and you are instantly sold by everything that he does. His work in the classroom has also helped to open some doors – with a 3.7 GPA.

2022 – Davin Wydner, QB, Melbourne Holy Trinity Episcopal. At 6-5, 220-pounds, here is someone who not only looks the part – but his 2,800 yards and leadership paved the way for an impressive junior season. You cannot teach some of the things that this young man brings to the table. In addition, his AP/Honors Classes and 1120 PSAT shows that he is someone who is ready to offer a college – the well-rounded student/athlete.
