While there are several players in class 6A that have received a great deal of interest from colleges, there are also quite a few players in class 6A that are really talented that colleges should take a look at. Here are 5 of those players.
<strong>LB, [player_tooltip player_id="89556" first="Jackson" last="Davis"], 5’10, 200, Olathe North</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="89556" first="Jackson" last="Davis"] is the 8th ranked LB and the 58th player overall in the class of 2022. He played a huge role on the defensive side of the ball in the success of Olathe North in 2020. Last season, he made 51 tackles with 3 TFL, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. He plays as a MLB. At the snap, he uses his good football intelligence to quickly key and diagnose the play, he then uses his instincts and range to take the correct angle and play sideline to sideline. He displays a very good motor to play until the whistle as he catches the RB from behind and uses his play strength to bring him down with ease.
<strong>OL, [player_tooltip player_id="35575" first="Dylan" last="Conn"], 6’4, 280, Derby</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="35575" first="Dylan" last="Conn"] is the 10th ranked OL and the 68th ranked player overall. His play in 2020 helped Derby repeat as 6A state champions. He plays as a C and was honorable mention all-state last season as a Junior. He fires out low, shoots his hands quickly delivering a powerful hand punch to the NT, uses his play strength to drive his man off the ball and his physical toughness to finish blocks to the ground. When reaching for blocks at the 2nd level, he quickly gets out in space, uses his size and power to overwhelm the LB and clears large running lanes for the RB. In pass pro, he bends at the knee, keeps his feet moving and sinks his hips to stand his ground and not get driven back while keeping the LB or NT from making progress.
<strong>DB, [player_tooltip player_id="89254" first="Cooper" last="Whitley"], 6’0, 165, Olathe South</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="89254" first="Cooper" last="Whitley"] is the 7th ranked DB and the 78th ranked player overall in the class of 2022. He plays as a FS. Against the run, he quickly keys and diagnoses the play at the snap, displaying unique range as he can make plays coming from one side of the field to the other, uses his leverage and play strength to drive through larger RB bringing them down with force. Against the pass, he uses his athletic ability to patrol his zone while keeping his eyes on the QB, uses his very good closing speed to get to the WR while using his play strength to bring him down with ease.
<strong>DL, [player_tooltip player_id="89494" first="Jack" last="Cecil"], 6’4, 200, Blue Valley</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="89494" first="Jack" last="Cecil"] is the 14th ranked DL and the 95th ranked player overall in the class of 2022. He had a great year in 2020 as he made 36 tackles with 3 TFL and 5 sacks. He plays as a DE where he lines up predominantly in a 5T. He is a very good pass rusher who fires off the ball, dips his shoulder and beats the OT with a rip move. He then uses his athletic ability, motor and play speed to chase down the QB for a sack or a hurry. Against the run, he keeps his eyes on the ball constantly while using his instincts to take the correct angle to the ball carrier and uses his good play strength to bring down the RB with force.
<strong>RB, [player_tooltip player_id="35608" first="Elijah" last="Harshaw"], 5’11, 165, Lawrence Free State</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="35608" first="Elijah" last="Harshaw"] is the 14th ranked RB and the 112th player overall in the class of 2022. He displays excellent vision as he sees the open hole and uses his good burst to quickly accelerate to top speed when running through the hole. He also possesses excellent quickness and agility to bend it back or bounce it to the outside while using his very good play speed to elude LB while in the secondary for big gains. He is also a reliable receiver, he displays the play speed to get behind DB while running wheel routes and displays very good hands as he can make the catch on passes that are thrown high.
