Glad you asked.
Two contenders have emerged. First, 2021 Albuquerque (NM) St. Pius X OL/DL Aaron Deller Aaron Deller 6'3" | OL St. Pius X | 2021 State NM , arguably the top lineman in the Albuquerque Metro Area, holds 12 offers after picking up six in the month of December: St. Ambrose, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Ave Maria University, Benedictine College, South Dakota Mines, Eastern New Mexico and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Deller tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that he visited St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa last weekend and plans to visit Benedictine in Atchison, KS next weekend. He described his visit to St. Ambrose as a “very good visit.”
Deller noted St. Ambrose competes in the very-competitive Mid-State Football Association and the resources available to football players there are impressive. In addition. St. Ambrose is known for being an academically rigorous school.
Deller tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that three schools stand out to him right now, In no particular order, his three favorites are South Dakota Mines, St. Ambrose and Benedictine with signing day less than a month away.
Second candidate for the new King of Offers? Hobbs LB Trae Jett.
Jett, listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, has signed a letter of intent with Benedictine, meaning he and Deller could be teammates in 2021.
In addition, Jett has been offered by about a dozen other schools, including McPherson College, Sterling College, Ripon College, Heidelberg University, Arizona Christian University, Pacific University, College of Wooster, Carthage College and Norwich University.
Right now, though, Jett is headed to Benedictine.
“I’m very excited about being a Raven,” Jett told Prep Redzone New Mexico.
He visited Benedictine in early November and the school renewed its offer on Nov. 13. As a NAIA school, Benedictine is able to offer Jett up to a full scholarship.
“I love what I saw at Benedictine and what’s going on with the coaches and football program,” Jett told Prep Redzone New Mexico shortly after his visit there. “The school in general is a great environment. I would be blessed to go to a school like that.”
While Deller has narrowed his field and Jett has made his choice, perhaps the hottest New Mexico prospect at the moment could be 2021 Albuquerque High OL/DL Carlos Lovato, listed at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds.
Within the past few days, Lovato has been offered by Eastern New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands. He was previously offered by NMMI, giving him three offers from in-state schools.
Another in-demand prospect who plays in the trenches is 2021 Clovis OL Johnny Jimenez Johnny Jimenez 6'2" | OL Clovis | 2021 State NM , who holds four offers: McPherson College, Mount Marty University, NMMI and Friends University.
2021 La Cueva standout Aiden Nair picked up three offers in December: University of La Verne, Finlandia University and Bethany College.
