Here are five players from the Class of 2020 Eight-Man Ranks who finished among the state tackle leaders.
CB, Ryan Heier, 5’9”, 150, Wheatland-Grinnell – Heier can cover and tackle. The speedy hard-hitting junior had 142 total tackles for the Thunderhawks in 2020. He forced three fumbles and recovered two. Heier knows how to wrap up and finish a tackle which is even more important in the eight-man game compared to eleven.
LB, Scott Price, 5’9”, 150, Bucklin – The Red Aces linebacker finished his junior season with a team-high 115 tackles. Price is a strong-linebacker who plays fast. He unofficially led all eight-man junior linebackers in tackles. He would be a solid addition to a college program.
LB, Issac Mendez, 5’10”, 170, Wheatland-Grinnell – Mendez arguably could have a high ceiling playing offense, however, he was among the state tackle leaders in Kansas. The Thunderhawk junior is not afraid to hit people whether it be while bringing down ball carriers or running over defenders when he has the ball. Mendez finished his 2020 season with 107 tackles.
LB, Tony Brogan, 5’9”, 155, Central-Burden– Brogan is a tough young man who enjoys making tackles. He led the Raiders in tackles with 103 over the course of his junior season. He reads the quarterback well, flows to the football, and finishes tackles.
LB, Dylan Hynes Dylan Hynes 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB Solomon | 2022 State KS , 6’1”, 180, Solomon– Hynes is the biggest space-eater among this group. The Solomon Gorilla junior led his squad in total tackles with 94. Hynes is a physical young man who plays with high energy. Hynes like the rest of this group is a solid candidate to play NAIA or JUCO college football.
