These 5 players worked hard this year and should be in the conversation for being the states defensive player of the year for their hard work and play on the field!

Zeiqui played in outstanding in just the few games he did play. The Cincinnati football commit caused problems in the backfield for opposing offenses and often times was double teamed because of how much damage he was causing. Arguably the best defensive player in the state he’s been wreaking havoc in backfields for the last 4 years of his career and deserves to be recognized for his outstanding career and play. His athleticism jumps off the screen along with his ability to find the football and make a play. He has a great get off and shows great strength when fighting down the line and holding the line of scrimmage.

Dillon had a fantastic senior year with the amount of games he played. The senior was a staple of the Poca defense and showed great toughness and resilience with making so many tackles and plays on the defensive side of the ball. He shows great instinct when reading the play and gets downfield fast to make a play on the football. He has great size to play inside linebacker and shows great athleticism when he drops back into coverage or gets downhill to shut down a run play.

Donavan had a great season on both sides of the ball. On the defensive side of the ball he showed great patience and had a knack for causing turnovers with his interceptions he had throughout the few games he did play in. He played through every play and showed great athleticism with some of the pass breakups and players he shut down in games. He showed great discipline on routes being ran on him along with playing in zone schemes and playing his role within the zone scheme.

John was a playmaker for Winfield this year. Their record says otherwise but John had a great senior season and was dominant in every game. In one game he had over 20 tackles registered along with a few pass breakups. He shows great discipline when reading the offense and is a consistent tackler and playmaker when running down the ball. He shows great athleticism when he drops into coverage and even shows that he can stick with smaller and faster receivers when they run through his zone.

Kevin truly made a name for himself within the state. The West Virginia football commit shocked most people with is outstanding play and helped his defense have a fantastic year. In 1 game he had 2 defensive touchdowns along with pass breakups and tackles. He showed he can play against great competition and dominate on the defensive side of the ball. He signed his letter of intent to play defensive back at WVU in the fall.
