Continue ReadingThe early signing period has come and gone. The elite of the elite in New Mexico have signed Division I letters of intent with schools such as New Mexico, UCLA, Colorado State, Washington State and University of San Diego.
Others, though, are deserving of offers from Division I or II institutions but are flying under the radar for one reason or another. As we enter the New Year, here are some of the top prospects still on the board. Many are still awaiting their first offer. All, in our opinion, are being underrecruited.
Isaac Gutierrez Isaac Gutierrez 5'10" | WR Centennial | 2021 State NM , Centennial (WR): One of the top wide receiver in southern New Mexico will be Centennial’s go-to weapon in the passing game. He had 331 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2019 while Darren Rodriguez served as Centennila’s No. 1 receiver. A big season could produce offers for Gutierrez.
Sean Hays Sean Hays 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Alamogordo | 2021 State NM , Alamagordo (RB): All Hays did last year was rush for 1,844 yards on a workhorse 257 carries in 11 games. He possesses good size at 6-0, 211 pounds. Yet, he hasn’t been offered. Hays had by far the most carries in Class 5A last season, and expect Alamogordo to lean on him again in the spring.
Tyler Jensen Tyler Jensen 6'2" | 185 lbs | RB La Cueva | 2021 State NM , Cleveland (RB): The transfer from La Cueva has carved out a remarkable story by beating cancer and then coming back from a broken fibula. Were it not for those two setbacks, Jensen would likely be more heavily recruited. Right now his only offer is University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.
Jeff Davison Jeff Davison 5'11" | 185 lbs | QB Cleveland | 2021 State NM , Cleveland (QB): All Davison does iss what a quarterback supposed to do – win games. Last year he suffered an injury but returned in time for the playoffs to lead Cleveland to the Class 6A state title. Davison threw for 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns in just 6 games in 2019. HI sonly offer is a JUCO in Arizona.
Luke Mummert Luke Mummert 6'1" | LB Albuquerque | 2021 State NM , Albuquerque (LB): One of the top linebackers in the Albuquerque Metro area, but rarely gets the attention he deserves because of the school he plays for. Mummert plays football with the passion, emotion and competitive fire you want. He’s around the football on nearly every play.
