Continue ReadingDutch Fork has won the last four state championships in Class 5A football in South Carolina. Despite a driving rain storm in Columbia, S.C., it was a mix of the run and pass game from the Sliver Foxes and a stout defense that led them to a 28-6 win over T.L. Hanna on Friday night and 50th straight win and that fifth straight 5A South Carolina high football state title.
Let’s get into the standouts and notes from Friday night’s 5A state championship:
Offense
2021 Dutch Fork QB/WR Will Taylor Will Taylor 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Dutch Fork | 2021 State SC – The Clemson commit has done it with his arm all season but he showed us tonight that he can get it done on the ground as well. He ran hard in space and followed his blockers nicely for two touchdowns, including a 21-yard scramble in the second quarter.
2023 Dutch Fork RB Jarvis Greene – The first offensive snap of the game was indicative of the night that the sophomore would have. He is quick bursting through the hole on the inside run plays and he showed good patience as well in waiting on his blockers on speed option plays the offense ran as well. He had two touchdowns on the night.
2022 Dutch Fork WR Antonio Williams Antonio Williams 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Dutch Fork | 2022 State SC – While the conditions were not ideal for throwing the ball, there was one third down and long conversion where Williams made a great grab in traffic. T.L. Hanna played coverage and the junior sat down right in the middle of the field and beat the coverage for a new set of downs in the second quarter.
Defense
2023 Dutch Fork MLB Chandler Perry – This guy seemed to be everywhere against T.L. Hanna’s Wing-T option attack, whether it was dive keep, misdirections or inside runs. We noticed he made a nice low tackle T.L. Hanna running back J.J. Hudson, which is exactly how you have to play against that type of attack.
2021 Dutch Fork SS/DB Trace Danley Trace Danley 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Dutch Fork | 2021 State SC – We only heard his name once, but he made a tackle on a misdirection play where he forced the lineman back into the ball carrier and blew the play before it was able to really get a head of steam.
Other notes of interest
- 2021 Dutch Fork LB Gabe Wise knocked away a 4th and 10 T.L. Hanna pass play to salt the game away to begin the 4th quarter.
- T.L. Hanna 2021 RB/OLB D.J. Brownlee and 2022 FB/DT Kabrail Morrison both made things look easy early on at least bursting through the hole leading to their one scoring drive of the night.
