Sneads Gets Ready For Baker – Round 2
In this article:
Until you live smaller town football on a Friday night in Florida’s Panhandle, you really haven’t experienced all that the Sunshine State has to offer.
Football in many Panhandle communities is what the fall is all about.
Dreams are made on those fields that stretch from outside of Tallahassee moving west toward Pensacola.
“Central Time” football gives so many of these programs their own identity – and those who have followed high school football already know what these programs have meant – and continue to mean to Florida as an entire state.
You can sit there and name them all night long. Those “rural” communities, where large malls and corporate America has yet to set up shop.
These communities – where time has touched so much – it hasn’t dulled any of the values these families have instilled for generations.
When it comes to football, all these programs are rivals. All trying to put their stamp on a state that is known nationally for great football.
If any school has earned the tag “rural” – it’s Sneads. Located to the west of Tallahassee – south of Highway 90, this is a school that has always competed against those quality Panhandle – and this year – the Pirates have stepped up their game – winning nine of 11 games – and the two losses have come to Blountstown, and Friday night’s opponent, Baker.
This is going to be a solid matchup between two Panhandle programs with a chance to head to Tallahassee to play for a state title.
HOW THEY GOT TO 9-2
In posting an impressive 9-2 season, heading into this week’s game, the Pirates beat Bristol Liberty County (33-0), Bonifay Holmes County (20-0), Panama City Bozeman (34-13), Tallahassee St. John Paul II (35-12) and Wewahitchka (35-14), losing only to defending 1A state runner up Blountstown (14-13) and Baker (26-25).
So far in the playoffs, they beat Liberty County (44-14) again, knocked Blountstown out of the Race For Tallahassee, 21-18, and Taylor County (60-21).
