Prince Avenue Christian Takes Control Of Class A Private Bracket

There’s a clear top team in Class A Private now after the big matchup this past weekend between Prince Avenue Christian and Eagles Landing Christian Academy. The Chargers were 5-time state champions in Class A Private heading into their matchup against Prince Avenue Christian this past Friday, but now their reign has come to an end. The Wolverines, led by 5-star QB and future Georgia Bulldog [player_tooltip player_id="33652" first="Brock" last="Vandagriff"], dominated the Chargers from the very start in route to an easy 38-0 victory. The Chargers had won 22-straight playoff games heading into the game, but that didn’t matter to the Wolverines. Not only was Prince Avenue’s offense firing on all cylinders, but their defense played their best game of the season. Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="33782" first="Byron" last="Green"] II terrorized the Chargers offensive line all night, tallying 5 TFLs and one sack. The Wolverine’s defense also intercepted two passes and couldn’t let ELCA get anything going offensively the entire night. The defensive line lived in the backfield and the defensive backs made great plays on the football and made the most of their opportunities. Vandagriff looked like a 5-star and played possibly his best game of the season. The future Bulldog, who will sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday, was 15/20 for 303 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for two early scores to give the Wolverines an early 14-0 lead. He was in total command of the offense and showed off his elite arm with some bullets down the field. Senior receiver [player_tooltip player_id="33779" first="Logan" last="Johnson"], a Troy commitment, caught a touchdown pass to continue his outstanding season. Senior athlete [player_tooltip player_id="33834" first="Landon" last="Owens"] carried the ball 19 times for 98 yards and a late touchdown run. Things look good for the Wolverines the next two weeks as ELCA was their biggest competition for the state title. They took care of the Chargers with ease, and now they’ll have 11-2 Wesleyan this Friday in the semi-finals. Prince Avenue beat Wesleyan 52-26 earlier this year and are playing their best football of the season. The Wolves aren’t lighting up the scoreboard, and with Prince Avenue’s defense improving week by week, this matchup bodes well once again for the Wolverines. The other Class A Private semi-final matchup matches Trinity Christian against Calvary Day. The 11-2 Tigers of Trinity Christian have losses to Athens Academy and Eagles Landing Christian and have scored more than 41 points in each of their last three games. The Calvary Day Cavaliers are 9-4 but are on a 4-game winning streak. Either way, [player_tooltip player_id="33652" first="Brock" last="Vandagriff"] and the Wolverines shouldn’t have much trouble in the final two weeks of the playoffs.
