For some of them, this was their last hoorah to get in front of college coaches for others, this was their first hoorah in their senior season if they are playing a spring season.
These nine seniors were the ones that stood out most to me on Day 2 of our Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase in Wisconsin Dells. Enjoy!
Sebastian Jefferson, DB/WR, Waukesha South (WI)
Jefferson showed off what a stud defensive back he was on Tuesday night. This kid’s quick footwork stood out to me most in the Dells. When you watch Jefferson in pursuit, you see some speed you might not see on film as he shows to be faster than the film shows sometimes. Jefferson has the chance to be a defensive back at the next level and has some great size at 6’0 185 pounds.
Lamaj Muhammad, WR/K, Racine Case (WI)
If you want to talk about a kid that made a name for himself at the Prep Redzone Showcase, Muhammad is undoubtedly one that did. Muhammad brought some intense bursts at the showcase, and some clutch hands as a very under the radar player, especially as a kicker playing as much more like a WR in day 2 of the Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase. Muhammad got something not every kid got, a college football offer from one of the programs that attended our showcase. Lamaj proved that he can be a solid wide receiver at the next level but adds versatility as a player that could be a sound kicker at the next level inside 40-45 yards.
Ethan Ackerman, WR/TE, Winnebago (IL)
Ackerman was a freak athlete I got to watch last Tuesday. Standing at an overpowering 6’5 210 pounds, Ackerman shows off a body that could be a next-level tight end. When you watch some of his routes from Tuesday and his film, you can see a kid that is a fighter and will get you that those extra yards and that first down. If Ackerman can get quicker on his feet with his stop routes, he could become even more of a threat at the next level.
Phillip Austin, LB/DB, St John’s NW Military Academy (WI)
Austin was a big-time beast on Tuesday night in Wisconsin Dells. When he plays, this kid’s energy is off the charts and is something you want on your team at the next level. If you are looking for a player that hammers the hit stick every time a quarterback is in his vicinity, Austin might be your guy. Austin has the motor to evade backfields as well as to stop the run. Austin most certainly needs to be college-level radars, especially with the big engine he plays with.
Bryce Barbian Bryce Barbian 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Cudahy | 2021 State WI , QB, Cudahy (WI)
Barbian was the king of throwing rocket balls on Tuesday night. Although some balls got by his receivers, this kid most certainly is a next level QB. His throwing power is like a 90 mph fastball that will make his receivers ice their fingers repeatedly on the sidelines. Barbian also can create some vital space with his throws, not losing a bit of that throwing arm when he is forced to scramble outside of the pocket. Barbian is also a tough kid that is not afraid of contact when he’s on the run. Barbian has two Northern Sun offers with other interest from the WIAC. In my opinion, this kid would be fantastic in the Sun!
Brett Boelkow, QB, St. Thomas More (Milwaukee)
Boelkow showed some great elusiveness at last Tuesday’s showcase. His quick trigger on his release is what makes him a next-level quarterback. Boelkow also is not afraid to tuck it and run, whatever it takes to get his team a first down. Boelkow is a quarterback that has solid footwork to evade tacklers. Boelkow holds one Division III currently and is one that I think will get more next-level opportunities this offseason.
Donte Conn, WR/DB, Menasha (WI)
Conn made the transfer from powerhouse Chicago Simeon to Menasha, didn’t get a fall season but turned some heads, including mine, at the Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase. Conn is not the biggest DB you’ll ever see, but man, this kid has a burst for the next level. In 1on1s, Conn also showed off a tremendous vertical against the bigger receivers from the showcase. Conn is very versatile on both sides of the ball and could be a great asset at the next level. Holds one offer from Northern Michigan. I’m telling you now, this kid is going to have a big year in the Bay Conference.
Carter Fonger, RB, Superior (WI)
Fonger was one of a few Superior Spartans that stood out to me on Tuesday. Fonger impressed me with his cutting ability and just how bouncy he was off contact. When you roll back his film, you see an undersized RB that has the quick burst but yet can accumulate plenty of yards after contact with a pretty solid push. Fonger looks to be significantly under the radar and could be a steal for a program that wants to dip their toes in the ice of the city of Superior. Fonger was a strong asset at the showcase, and I look forward to seeing where his spring football season takes him to the next level.
Emmitt Hawkins Emmitt Hawkins 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Cudahy | 2021 State WI , WR/TE, Cudahy (WI)
If there were one duo I would have loved to watch from our showcase this fall season, it would have been the connection between Cudahy QB Bryce Barbian Bryce Barbian 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Cudahy | 2021 State WI and WR Emmit Hawkins. Hawkins not only quite my eye with his speed, but he also showed off some quirky feet that turned a few scouts and I’m sure coaches heads at our Wisconsin showcase. Hawkins on film has one of the very few perfected spin moves I have seen in high school football; as you can tell, it’s not something he does; he’s perfected the art of it. Hawkins has a college-level star written all over him. Multiple Northern Sun offers.
