Greenwood and Lake Hamilton had each met during the regular season with Greenwood getting the better of Lake Hamilton. Both teams had players on display that will be playing on Saturdays and this matchup put Greenwood’s tradition up against an up and comer in Lake Hamilton.
The Greenwood Bulldogs have become one of the most dominant teams in the state of Arkansas. Rick Jones left Greenwood during the offseason and Chris Young immediately stepped as the head coach and won a state championship in his first season. To accomplish winning the championship, the Bulldogs had to defeat Lake Hamilton. Lake Hamilton is one of the most improved teams in the state the past few years and playing a second time was worthy of the state title game.
The game early could not have started better for the Wolves than what it did. The Bulldogs fumbled the opening kickoff return setting up the Wolves with great field position. Lake Hamilton would jump out to 10-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Wolves running back Owen Miller Owen Miller 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Lake Hamilton | 2022 State AR was difficult to bring down for Greenwood defense. After Lake Hamilton gained the 10-0 lead, the Greenwood Bulldogs took over.
Greenwood running back Hunter Wilkinson Hunter Wilkinson 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB Greenwood | 2021 State AR has achieved pretty much everything you can think of at Greenwood, had an impressive game. Wilkinson ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Wilkinson finished the season with 1,636 yards and made scouts and observers open the eyes at what all he was accomplishing. Wilkinson and the Bulldogs’ offense opened a lot of eyes and in so doing helped the Bulldogs grab the lead and not look back in the state championship game.
Greenwood has become the dominant football program in Sebastian County. The Bulldogs have a system in place and the tradition in place to continue the winning. However, the 2020 season belongs to the Bulldogs after defeating the Wolves 49-24. I would expect both the Bulldogs and Lake Hamilton to run into each other again next season. Congratulations go out to Greenwood on winning the state championship and having an excellent season!
