Five Arkansas Uncommitted 2021 Prospects
In this article:
The early signing period has come and gone; however, the state of Arkansas produces plenty of talent and the 2021 has a well-stocked cupboard. Every week we will examine five recruits that have yet to be signed and that appear to be flying under the radar. All five players that we look at today will be playing college football on Saturdays next fall.
Eli Shepherd-Quarterback
One player that was solid all season was Eli Shepherd. The El Dorado quarterback displayed a strong and accurate arm. Shepherd was able to have a terrific season all the while dealing with an injury. Shepherd passed for 1,476 yards and 13 touchdowns. A facet of Shepherd’s game that I am impressed with is his ability to pull down the ball use his legs to create plays. The other area of Shepherd’s game I am the most impressed with is his ability to play at a high level despite battling an injury. He played with a torn labrum all season and he played well for El Dorado.
Cody Hix Cody Hix 6'4" | 265 lbs | OL Fayetteville | 2021 State AR -Offensive Line
The offensive line is an area of the team that I have always paid attention before looking at the other positions on the roster. Hix earned All-State honors this season in the 7-A conference and has proven to be a consistent pass blocker. Hix uses his speed well to keep the opposing defensive lineman off-balance. He mixes the speed with good power when it comes to run blocking and he is offensive linemen that will make scouts happy with what he produces on the field. How Hix has stayed under the radar is a good question, however he is a recruit that will be playing on Saturdays in the fall.
Donavan Nooner-Running Back
Nooner is another Atkins Red Devil that had a terrific season in 2020. Nooner was a big part of the Atkins rushing attack this season. He rushed for 1,288 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. Meanwhile, from a receiving perspective Nooner was an impressive target. Nooner hauled in 26 passes for 446 yards receiving. With Nooner remaining unsigned he is going to be a name to watch as the signing period for the 2021 class winds down. He is a patient runner and is someone that can be a reliable option as a three-down option at the running back position.
AJ Moss AJ Moss 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Bentonville West | 2021 State AR -Defensive Back
Over time the 7-A west conference learned not to throw in his direction. Moss does a great job of playing the ball while in the air. Moss is a defensive back that does not shy away from making a tackle. He is a solid player in all areas; however, his tackling is the area of his game that I am the most impressed with. Moss does not hesitate to come up and make the tackle on the ball carrier. Moss is very impressive in making a play on the ball and picking off passes. Moss has the potential to be a solid player on Saturdays and he is a player that should do well in the college game.
Reggie Toney Reggie Toney 5'9" | 155 lbs | WR Morrilton | 2021 State AR -Wide Receiver
Toney is a wide receiver that runs very impressive routes. Toney is able to gain separation using his speed and keeping the opposing defensive back off balance. He does not allow the defensive back to jam him at the line of scrimmage. Toney is one of those wide receivers that rarely drops passes and he does not run without the football. Toney having played both sides of the ball gives him an insight on how to play the wide receiver position while knowing to protect the football. He has all the makings of a being a solid player on Saturdays.
