This report will add another talented football player to the list. Layton Eide Layton Eide 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Deuel | 2021 State is a 5’11″, 185 lb. WR/LB and also handled the kicking duties of the Deuel Cardinals who has decided to commit to the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in Mitchell, South Dakota. Working with this athlete was one of the reasons I enjoy scouting! He had all kinds of questions about schools and different recruiting styles and even where he thought he would be best fit in college. He has a real athlete mentality in that sense, always finding ways to improve his game on the field and off the field, which really reflected in his interview! Watching his film, I could tell about the film because it seemed he knew where the ball was going before the snap of the ball. He flowed to the ball well and always wrapped up the ballcarrier on defense. Offensively, in the formations they ran, he was part a wing type back, FB, and a WR. He really shined leading the way for his RB, really met the defender with a lot of force. He also could make some physical runs himself and can catch passes out wide and out of the backfield. Check out his interview below:
PRZ: Hello Layton, tell us a little about yourself and when you started playing football.
Eide: I began playing football in 5th grade. Started off as a guard because I was bigger than most kids out there. When I got to Middle School I switched to become a FB and DE, once I got to High School, I hit the weight room and got a lot faster and stronger and made the transition to LB and WR.
PRZ: What do you love about the game?
Eide: I love that there is a role for each size, speed, and ability. It takes a whole team, not individuals. I also love the mental aspect of the game, the film breakdown, techniques, scouting, etc. All the little things of the game that lead to the big part of it when the game is at full speed.
PRZ: What made you decide Dakota Wesleyan?
Eide: Ultimately what made me choose DWU was the athletic training program as well as the coaches. They have a great 5-year program for both my undergrad and my master’s together. I also enjoyed my visit there, the team made it feel like family.
PRZ: What will you miss about High School Football?
Eide: I will miss all the people from High School, as well as the staff. I had amazing coaches that helped me get where I am today. My teammates were always fun to be around as well, being in a small town you know everyone. We all are very close and I will miss not seeing them every day.
PRZ: Is there any advice you have for any other athlete trying to get recruited?
Eide: For any upcoming athletes, I just have to say this: College coaches are good enough to find the best talent, but you putting in the effort to get your name out there and get your film out there shows how dedicated you are to play at the next level, so don’t be afraid to make the first move and reach out to a coach. Also, stay focused on school, grades matter to help you accomplish what you want beyond high school. Staying out of trouble off the field matters, making all the workouts all the time matters. ALL THE LITTLE THINGS MATTER.
