6A Football: Underrated Match Up Between Westlake and Allatoona

Perhaps one of the most underrated match ups of the 6A football playoffs within the state of Georgia is between that of Allatoona, and Westlake High. While both schools have had dominant seasons, only one can advance to the next round. While many may expect Westlake to win this match up, we also feel that Allatoona brings a ton to the table within this upcoming game. No win is guaranteed, especially when there is a hungry Buccaneers football team on the other sideline. So far this season, Allatoona has accumulated an 11-0 record, including their most recent win over Dacula High within the second round of the playoffs. In this game, they won 31-6, and their defense was in full effect, just as it has been so far this entire season. Throughout the season, Allatoona has not allowed more than 17 points in a game. This is largely due to the contributions of players such as Kevin Kesser, Bryson Arnold, and Vinnie Canosa. On the offensive side of the football, they have had their fair share of success as well due to players such as [player_tooltip player_id="33906" first="Bennett" last="Christian"], Zach Jackson, and Elan Hall. The big question will be if they can keep up with Westlake, even if their defense plays at a high level. Throughout the season, Westlake football has also gained their fair amount of attention, as they have dominated teams week in, and week out. While they only suffered one loss on the season, they appear to be poised to try to take it all this season. As the weeks have gone by throughout their 2020 football season, they have managed to put up 40 points or more, on 6 different occasions. This includes their win against Morrow, which resulted in a final score of 71-6. As Westlake has powered through opposing teams, prospects such as RJ Johnson, Zina Mulbah, [player_tooltip player_id="33697" first="Leo" last="Blackburn"], [player_tooltip player_id="33670" first="Dacari" last="Collins"], [player_tooltip player_id="33723" first="Demarko" last="Williams"], and [player_tooltip player_id="34007" first="Avieon" last="Terrell"] have all been key to the teams success. Not only has the offense managed to put up ridiculous numbers, but the defensive play of the Lions has shaped up too. Because of this, while we think this is an underrated match up, we think that Westlake has a chance to compete throughout the rest of the playoffs. While many may not believe that this would be an underrated match up, we think it can be due to the fact that Allatoona has a chance to match up well, especially due to their defensive play. If they show that they have struggles keeping up, the game can get out of hand very quickly. Either way, we’ll come to find out soon enough.
