The Ironmen fought back from a 14-0 halftime deficit, and they won in dramatic fashion in the end. It was a rivalry game that certainly won’t be forgotten soon. Let’s take a look at the winners from the thriller on Saturday.
Ethan Acevedo, Don Bosco: Acevedo had a monster game on the receiving end for Don Bosco, finishing with three receptions for 143 yards and a pair of TD catches. Thomas Sawicki calmly booted the extra point that gave the Ironmen the monumental victory. Don Bosco, which improved to 2-3 on the season, went 65 yards on its game-winning drive with no timeouts remaining. Acevedo ran a vertical route and caught a well-thrown ball from Robbins on the final play, and the Bergen Catholic home crowd was silent with what transpired.
Jake Robbins, Don Bosco: Despite pressure from a physical Bergen Catholic defense, Robbins stayed calm and poised and threw for 251 yards and two TDs. He had an interception but made the plays that mattered down the stretch. His throw to Acevedo on the final play was right on the money, and he capitalized on Bergen Catholic’s man coverage on that play. The Robbins-Acevedo connection proved to be beneficial on Saturday.
