With more and more programs finding their way to the state championships, Orlando has once again given the state of Florida yet another avenue to boast teams and high level prospects.
With Apopka (8A), Edgewater (7A) and Jones (5A), Orlando had some impressive teams that college coaches are gravitating toward.
Over the course of a year, we shine the spotlight on different areas of the state – and today we take a look at five prospects who have done the central Florida area very well.
2021 – Jack Howes, PK/P, Orlando Edgewater. One of the top special teams performers in the state – as he showed a year ago during the Eagles’ run at a 7A state title. They also saw during the late summer at Covid-safe special teams showcases across the country. His ability to combine leg strength and accuracy, has everyone looking in his direction. In a game earlier this season, he averaged 47 yards per punt, averaged 66 yards per kickoff, and added a 34 yard field goal in a win. His grades in the classroom are simply impressive and his career goals are in place.

2021 – Sean Johnson, QB, Orlando The First Academy. Another solid athletic game-changer who knows how to step up and make plays in big-game situations. Tough young man who can beat you in a number of ways. Recently, he went a perfect 8-of-8 for 196 yards and three touchdowns plus one carry for 17 yards and a touchdown in a win.

2021 – Sonny Rao, LB, Orlando Bishop Moore. One of the more athletic and versatile prospects in this region. Already committed to USF to play baseball, this outstanding prospects also happens to be solid on the football field for the Hornets, where he had 13 tackles – three tackles for loss in a win.

2021 – Ayron Rodriguez, RB, Winter Park. Easily one of the top running backs in this region – and one of the best in Florida – this is indeed a quality runner, who has speed, tremendous vision and balance, and with a recent 170 yard, four touchdown performance, he showed that this is someone who continues to get it done – and elevate his team.

2022 – Stephen Sparrow, RB, Orlando Jones. This is someone who stepped in this year and has not looked back. Solid talent who is making a name for himself – locally and regionally – and soon – nationally. Gifted runner who has a motor that does not stop. Has more than proven that he belongs at this level – as he showed recently with 254 all-purpose yards – 174 rushing, 80 receiving – and scoring four total touchdowns – three rushing, one receiving in a huge win.
