The Rams were excited to play senior QB Jake Garcia, a Valdosta transfer and one of the top QB prospects in the country. Although he didn’t light up the stat sheet, Garcia proved why he’s one of the top-ranked 2021 QBs in the country. He only threw for 179 yards and one TD, but he showed poise, confidence, accuracy, and a strong arm. Luckily for Grayson, he’ll only get better with more practices under his belt.
Another Grayson Ram who impressed was running back Phil Mafah Phil Mafah 6'1" | 213 lbs | RB Grayson | 2021 State GA . Possibly the best overall running back in the state, Mafah showed power and speed against Parkview’s defense, and made it look easy at times. One of the state’s leading rushers, the future Clemson Tiger ran for 149 yards and two TDs on Friday night.
The Rams defense continues to dominate, and they played fast all night against a strong Parkview offense led by four-star RB Cody Brown Cody Brown 6'0" | 211 lbs | RB Parkview | 2021 State GA . After getting down early, the Panthers tried getting their passing game going, but that didn’t work out too well. Grayson sophomore CB Michael Daugherty Michael Daugherty 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Grayson | 2023 State GA , one of the top young defenders in the state, came up with an early INT and set the tone for the rest of the game.
Overall, the way the Rams playing, they’re looking like a true state championship contender.
In South Georgia, the Colquitt County Packers remain undefeated as they defeated powerful Camden County. These are two teams bound for deep playoff runs, but it was the Packers who looked like the true state title contender after coming away with a 34-13 win. Senior QB Xavier Williams was 10/15 for 141 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed 13 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns with a 71-yard run and a 62-yard run. He’s currently committed to UNC Charlotte, but more bigger offers could come his way soon.
Another South Georgia team who stayed undefeated after this weekend was Lowndes. They struggled on offense against 5-star DL Tyre West and the Tift County defense, but the Viking’s defense showed up in a big way, leading them to a 17-13 victory. The Vikings are now 6-0 with state championship aspirations.
In metro-Atlanta, a team who continues to impress each week is the Norcross Blue Devils. The Gwinnett County powerhouse isn’t the most talented team in the country, but they’re playing much better than people thought they would at the beginning of the year. The Blue Devils defeated Discovery but a score of 47-14 and remain undefeated at 8-0.
Another talented matchup in Gwinnett County over the weekend was Collins Hill and North Gwinnett. The Bulldogs of North Gwinnett have one of the most talented defenses in the country led by Clemson linebacker commit Barrett Carter Barrett Carter 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB North Gwinnett | 2021 State GA and Ohio State cornerback commit Jordan Hancock Jordan Hancock 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB North Gwinntett | 2021 State GA , but it wasn’t enough to handle the high-powered offense of Collins Hill. The Eagles put up 42 points on the Bulldogs thanks to elite WR Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA , one of the most explosive players in the country. Hunter had two receiving TDs, one rushing TD, 4 receptions for 145 yards, 7 tackles and one INT.
