While there were plenty of match ups throughout the state of Georgia this past Friday that excited spectators across the state, we wanted to take the time to bring 4 specific games to your attention. During these games, plenty of players put up great numbers, and found themselves in prime positions to continue to get their name out there to coaches at the next level. Jones County vs Union Grove When Jones county and Union Grove met this past Friday, it was a light show due to the fact that Jones County ended the game with 62 points. The final score saw them as the winner, 62-22. During this game, players such as QB, John Richter showed out, as he went 10 for 13, for 190 yards, and 3 TD’s, all of which went to WR, [player_tooltip player_id="33802" first="Maleek" last="Wooten"]. While this shows clear dominance in the air, the running game is where Jones County made it happen. Four different RB’s scored a TD for Jones County. This included [player_tooltip player_id="33837" first="Andrew" last="Carner"], who rushed for 133 yards and 2 TD’s, Connor Bass, who rushed for 68 yards on one carry for a TD, Javious Bond, who had 4 carries for 61 yards and 2 TD’s, and Drew Jones, who had a TD as well. The defense for Jones County shined as well, as 3 players finished with double digit tackle totals. These players included that of Deon Richardson (11 tackles), Javious Bond (10), and JaVorious Venerable (10). Going into the rest of the season, Jones county will hope to be able to replicate this success, and add more wins to their record. Newnan vs Harris County In a game that was close until Newnan put up its last 6 points in the 4th quarter, Newnan came out on top over Harris County 34-21. In this game, both QB’s had strong showings, as Newnan QB, Michael Maginnis threw for 187 yards and 2 TD’s, while Harris County QB, Cooper Corey threw for 274 yards, rushed for 31 yards, and had 3 TD’s and 2 Interceptions. While these numbers may seem a bit flashy, its the defense for both teams that made a difference in the game. Newnan ended the game with 5 total sacks, of which defensive players Tripp Slaton, Ashton Heflin, Michai Hill, and Brandon Tolvert ll had sacks. Michai Hill happened to have two of them. For Harris County, players Malchi Youman, and David Emfinger both recorded sacks. Emfinger had two of the three total sacks. Northeast vs Monroe Northeast High School pulled off a close win against Monroe this past Friday, as the final score was 14-12. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter, that Northeast High put up their last 7 points, which ended up winning them the game. During this match up, it was another strong QB battle by each teams, as Northeast’s QB, Travion Solomon, and Monroe’s QB, Darrious Rivers both threw for over 200 yards. Specifically, Solomon threw for 201 yards, 2 TD’s and an interception. While Rivers didn’t have any TD passes, he went 16-25, and 235 yards. In Northeast High’s win, Solomon also rushed for 50 yards, which led his entire team. His top targets in this game included the likes of Demarcus Griffin, Brandon Watkins, Omarion Ottiman, and Zion Odoms. On the other side of the field. most of Rivers passing yards were thanks to WR’S Tarvorin Boyd, and Dominik Henderson. As expected due to the score. The defenses for each team were very stout. Defensive players such as Kavin Wiliams, and Curtis Dukes, for Monroe, each totaled a high amount of tackles. Williams finished the game with 16, and Dukes finished with 17. But all in all, it was not enough, as Northeast High found a way to finish the game strong. East Coweta vs Northgate Northgate High, another cross town rival for East Coweta, found itself on the losing end of their match up this past Friday. The final score saw the Indians victorious, 49-17. The strength of the Indians win came from their running back group. As a whole, the Indians totaled 283 rushing yards. RB’s Jayden Bolton, and Trey Bowles led the team in TD’s as Bolton rushed for 3, and Bowles rushed for 2. With this, QB Daneil Shoch, who went 7-10 for 28 yards, also rushed for a TD. By the end of the game, Bolton totaled an impressive 171 yards, which proved to be impossible for the Vikings to stop. East Coweta’s defense also had a stellar night, as it totaled 85 tackles, which eventually held the Vikings to only 17 points. For the Indians, their leading tacklers were Chase Lewis (12 tackles), Dylan Spelios (11 tackles), Christian Richardson (9 tackles), Pierre Robinson (7 tackles), and Ryan Barber (6 tackles). So far this season, the Indians are 4-1, and hope to be able to continue this success throughout the rest of the season. Northgate on the other hand is 2-2 at this point of the season, and hopes to be able to improve.
