Garcia was ruled ineligible at Valdosta High School in September after playing one game for the Wildcats on Sept. 4.
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported the following week that the state association for high school athletics was investigating Garcia’s eligibility after a report from ESPN examined Garcia’s parents’ dissolved marriage to meet eligibility standards. Garcia and Valdosta petitioned the Georgia High School Association for reinstatement but the request was denied.
He led Valdosta to a season-opening win over Warner Robbins and he threw for 332 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Valdosta must forfeit that win against Warner Robbins.
Garcia enrolled at Grayson High School in Loganville and it is believed that he will be immediately eligible to play. The reason why Garcia is eligible to play at Grayson and was ineligible to play at Valdosta is unknown. The GHSA never specified why Garcia was ruled ineligible at Valdosta.
He moved to Georgia to play football due to the California Interscholastic Federation’s statewide decision to postpone all sports until January. Garcia initially intended to play his senior season at La Habra High in California, graduate early and enroll at USC in the spring. He moved to Georgia to be able to play his senior season and still enroll early at USC.
Garcia played the last two seasons at Narbonne of Harbor City (CA). Narbonne was banned from postseason play last season and Garcia transferred to La Habra. He played his freshman season at Long Beach Poly. Grayson will be the fifth high school Garcia has been enrolled in during his high school career.
Grayson is currently 6-0 and 1-0 in the 7A 4 region and will play Parkview of Lilburn Friday. Grayson’s current starting quarterback is junior De’yon Cannon who has thrown for 683 yards and seven touchdowns this season with four interceptions.
It remains to be seen if Garcia will get any playing time at Grayson with just three games left in the regular season.

Garcia completed 70 percent of his passes for 2,301 yards and 25 touchdowns in 9 games for Narbonne last season.
