Lakewood Out To Finish Some Business
Coming within two points of reaching the 4A finals last season, St. Petersburg Lakewood is looking for more this season.

When head coach Cory Moore looks back at the 2019 season, he knows that this program should have been representing the south at the state tournament.
This was a team, loaded with talent and getting it done on both sides of the ball – especially on defense where they were limiting the opponents all year long.
That 9-7 loss to eventual 4A state champion Miami Booker T. Washington had this team thinking in the off-season – and when they returned to practice late in the summer, there was a commitment to finish things off in 2020.
The only loss in a 12-1 season saw the Spartans muff a punt that eventually resulted in a touchdown, and allowed a safety on a blocked punt. The only Lakewood touchdown came on defense. Lakewood had 17 penalties for 133 yards.
This year – after starting off the season 4-0, all signs point toward a successful season – with some quality, young prospects stepping up to the plate along with a few veterans, who have shown plenty of leadership.
The Spartans began the season with a 42-0 win over Gibbs, a 40-6 victory over Gulfport Boca Ciega, and a 10-3 battle with Bradenton Braden River.
