It was Delbarton’s second win over Don Bosco in program history. Even more eye-opening, Friday night’s win was the Green Wave’s first since the 2001 postseason.
A veteran group has been key for Delbarton. Senior Cole Freeman was exceptional at quarterback, and the Morris County squad built up a 27-0 lead at one point.
Freeman went 12-of-16 for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for 107 yards on 12 carries with a rushing score.
He found Nick Petrillo Nick Petrillo 6'3" | TE Delbarton | 2022 NJ on a 24-yard TD pass and Dylan Hakes on an 11-yard strike. Gary Lewis ran 16 times for 69 yards and Aidan Papantonis finished with 44 yards on six carries. Hakes made four catches for 54 yards.
Patrick Ryan connected on field goals of 26 and 40 yards for Delbarton.
Don Bosco’s Jake Robbins threw a pair of touchdowns and scored on a run.
The Ironmen fell to 1-2 and the Green Wave is now 3-0, with wins over Seton Hall Prep, DePaul and Don Bosco.
Delbarton will meet Pope John next Saturday while Don Bosco goes up against state power St. Joseph (Mont.).
