And the multi-purpose threat continually delivered.
McWilliams completed his senior season with 1,171 total yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns. That included carrying the football, catching it, returning kickoffs and handling punt return duties.
“I think I have grown a lot from my freshman year of football all the way to my senior year,” McWilliams said. “Since starting to play varsity as a sophomore, I feel as if the game has become a lot slower and easier to ready.
“I know that playing at the next level in college will be even faster.”
This all was nothing new for McWilliams, who compiled over 1,000 yards rushing as a junior.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder has excellent vision and speed out of the backfield. His 16 receptions this past season show that he can be a three-down back at the next level.

McWilliams has garnered plenty of interest including close discussions with coaches from Sioux Falls, St. Ambrose, Wartburg and Wisconsin-Platteville. He committed to Sioux Falls earlier this week.

“Some things that I believe I can bring to a college program are determination and grit,” he said. “I am all about competing and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. I also feel as if I bring leadership whether through speaking or by example.
“I always try to do whatever to get the team fired up during practice and on game days, and I also try to lead by example by performing with great intensity everytime I step on the field.”
McWilliams ran for 181 yards on 31 carries against Iowa City West and racked up 131 yards on 26 attempts with two scores vs. Cedar Rapids Washington.
He also had a pair of classic battles with fellow running back prospects Ryan Ostrich Ryan Ostrich 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Cedar Falls | 2021 IA of Cedar Falls and Nick Pearson Nick Pearson 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Prairie | 2021 IA from Cedar Rapids Prairie. McWilliams ran for 144 yards and two scores vs. Cedar Falls while adding 153 yards on 23 carries against Prairie.
“To me, I think what might be my best personal achievement from this season was averaging over 100 yards rushing per game,” he said. “One of my biggest takeaways on getting better from last season was consistency and my goal was to average at least 100 yards every game.
“I think the thing that I will remember most is the journey that my team and I went through this season. It was unlike any other with all of the COVID implications. Being able to play this season in itself is a blessing and I will always be thankful that I got to play my senior season considering that many other players all over did not get the same opportunity.”
McWilliams is the type of player you want on your roster. He’s a smart kid (3.95 grade point average) and has all the skills on the football field to be an asset (4.58 40-yard dash).
