Bridgeland Bears
First thing that stands out about this defense is that they are active. 7 to 8 orange helmets are always around the ball and they work well as a unit. It will be up to them to slow done the Tiger offense who average 52 points per game and I believe this defense is up for the challenge.
DE Oghenemine Imarah #50 (2021)
It starts up front with this defense, and this is the guy you would like on your team. Imarah is a very active defensive lineman who finds his way to through fantastic effort. Great first step and strike off the line, and does a great job getting off of blocks. Tank does not run out with him and it is shown in his tenacious pursuit of the ball carrier. Imarah is the leading tackler on the team with 36. He also has 7 sacks, and 13 tackles for loss through 5 games.
DB Terrance Cullivan #23 (2022)
A hybrid safety who can cover high or come down low to help in the run which will be important for this game. Cullivan shows no fear coming down to make a play and shows good range at the position. On the season Cullivan has 27 total tackles, 3.5 for loss, and 3 pass deflections.
DB/LB Gavan Kaspar #11 (2021)
Kaspar is another player who is somewhat of a hybrid. Usually in the spot of the outside backer, Kaspar has a nose for the ball as well. He is great defending the run and has the speed to get around the edge. Kaspar has 28 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and an interception for the season thus far.
DB Bryce McMorris Bryce McMorris 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Bridgeland | 2021 TX #4 (2021)
McMorris is a nice complement to Cullivan in the secondary. He is another one who can play the high safety spot as well as come down and provide run support. Can finish tackles well as has great closing speed. McMorris has 28 total tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss.
Cypress Park Tigers
This defense will be challenged to stop the Bears high powered spread offense, which is averaging 36 points per game. Another strong unit who work well together. The Tigers defense has a few two way guys who may not see every down, but I know that will not stop them or their players from making plays. Here are a few guys who I expect to hear often throughout the game.
LB Harold Perkins Harold Perkins 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Cypress Park | 2022 State TX #4 (2022)
This outside backer has the ability to change a game on both sides of the ball. Chase down speed on tackles are a thing to see and his ability to shed blocks to make tackles are second to none. Do not leave Perkins unblocked or he will make you pay. On the year Perkins has 23 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks with a strip fumble and a fumble return for a touchdown.
DE Jarra Anderson #68 (2023)
Anderson is another two way player but you would not be able to tell with his effort. Ability to shed blocks and utilize his strength is seen on film and he is a nightmare to handle. True disruptor when on the field and will be one to keep an eye on as he continues to get better. Anderson so far this season has racked up 23 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, with 3 sacks.
LB/DB Owen Pewee Owen Pewee 6'3" | 190 lbs | LB Cypress Park | 2022 State TX #14 (2022)
Pewee did not play in the teams last contest, but if he is available he provides another great asset to limit the Bridgeland offense. He plays opposite of Perkins as well as a safety in certain situations. Pewee is a heat seeking missile looking for the ball carrier and shows his closing speed. Pewee also plays receiver on offense. Through 4 games, Pewee has 25 total tackles and an interception to go along with it.
My hopes are high for this game and I am excited to see these athletes match up. No matter how it ends, I expect both teams to have a fantastic season and look forward to see how these players progress through it.
