7A Teams That Have Impressed

As October is reaching it’s midway point, it is also about midway through the high school football season as well. So far, plenty of high school teams throughout the state of Georgia have shown out, but the 7A region in particular, has been very impressive. While teams such as Lowdes, Grayson, and Colquitt County have dominating leads in the rankings, there have also been plenty of other teams that have shined as well. High school such as Norcross and Brookwood have also had strong seasons so far this year as well. Outside of these teams, who typically have strong showings, we wanted to note some schools and their players within 7A football that have had solid seasons so far, and who haven’t gotten the attention they deserve. <strong>Hillgrove High</strong> Hillgrove High, who is 3-1 on the season so far, has only lost in their match up against Norcross high during the first week of the season. Since then, they have gone on to stack great wins against McEachern, Westlake, and Gainesville High. On offense, players such as Theo Tatum and TJ Thomas have had decent seasons carrying the football, while the team has also had a total of 911 passing yards from the likes of Tatum, and Chase Mccravy. With that, receivers Jalen Royals, Jordan Brock, [player_tooltip player_id="34028" first="Cayden" last="Lee"], and Reggie Givhan have each already totaled more than 100 receiving yards. On the defensive side of the ball, there have also been some players who have shown positive flashes of ability as well. Aside from the defense having totaled more than 80 tackles on the season, Hillgrove also has had 4 players who have had a sack so far. These players are Darrell Ellis, Kyle Mckinney, Andreas Keaton, and Diyontae Dallas. Needless to say, for the small amount of games this team has played so far, what they have been able to accomplish has been very impressive, and it will be exciting to see what else they are able to accomplish. <strong>East Coweta High School</strong> East Coweta, one of the most unexpected teams to have had such a strong season up to this point, has already recorded a 5-1 record. Like Hillgrove, the only loss in which they have taken this season has been to Norcross High. They have beaten teams such as Starr’s Mill, New Manchester, Meadowcreek, Northgate, and Collins Hill, all while having already scored more than 200 points this season. Perhaps one of the most impressive parts of this year’s Indians team, is the overall defensive performance. Only 6 games in, the Indians have more than 14 total sacks, and 3 interceptions so far, with 26 total TD’s. [player_tooltip player_id="27678" first="Daniel" last="Shoch"] has proven to be the real deal at the QB as well, as he has thrown for more than 800 yards. With this, RB, Jayden Bolton has totaled almost 900 yards on the ground. In the receiving game, Amariyon Moss has proven to be a huge factor as well, which is great for East Coweta due to the fact that he is only a Junior. On defense, the Indians, have had reluctance, as they have totaled almost 375 tackles, and with 2 players having impressive sack numbers. This includes the likes of Ryan Barber, and Dylan Spelios. If the Indians can continue to make a run, they may be able to shake it up within 7A football. <strong>Milton High School</strong> After having only played 4 games this season, Milton has also been very impressive, and have totaled a 3-1 record. The only loss they sustained was to Cedar Grove, but have beaten the likes of Johns Creek, Hapeville Charter, and McEachern. The Eagles have already totaled 11 sacks this season, with 4 interceptions. LT Overton, who has 6 sacks by himself, and Dylan Miller, have already had monstrous seasons as a whole on defense. Needless to say, their defense has been phenomenal. To make matters even more impressive, they have not allowed more than 21 points a game. Don’t sleep on their offense either though. Entering into this week, QB, [player_tooltip player_id="33991" first="Devin" last="Farrell"] has already totaled almost 700 yards passing, averaging over 170 yards a game. With this, the Eagles also have a total of more than 600 yards on the ground for the season, as Farrell, and RB Jordan McDonald have also dominated on the ground. Specifically, McDonald has totaled 276 yards. <strong>Mill Creek</strong> While many people may wonder how Mill Creek made our list due to their 2-2 record, we have included them due to the fact that while they may have lost, they lost to two of the top teams in the state, and displayed an honorable showing. Their two losses came to Brookwood, and Grayson. Both losses were two possession games. While they may be 2-2, it is worth keeping up with the team, and tracking their progress due to the talent in which they possess. On the team, they have a young, and talented QB in Hayden Clark, and very impressive defensive players such as Brayden Dudley, and [player_tooltip player_id="34015" first="Caleb" last="Downs"]. Truthfully, within the next few years, this team will have a ton of potential, and can be expected to continue to be able to compete with some of the best teams in the state, just as they have already shown to do. Expect for them to make a name for themselves within 7A football.
