Just a little over three months before the high school football season kicks off in California. Last week, five quarterbacks in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section without an offer were recognized and now under-recruited running backs will be given the spotlight.
Check out these five players in the class of 2021 come this season.
Joseph Filippini – Tokay

Along with being one of the top junior running backs in the Sac-Joaquin Section last season, Filippini’s quick feet and acceleration led to the fourth most kickoff return yards in the state on 21 attempts. His 20 rushing touchdowns were second among junior running backs in the section. He recorded 1,347 rushing yards in 2019 that is second all-time in Tokay Tigers history for a single-season. Filippini also had a major presence on defense leading the Tigers in tackles as a defensive back.

Even with two three-star recruits [player_tooltip player_id="25093" first="Keleki" last="Latu"] and [player_tooltip player_id="25156" first="Nathan" last="Lewis"] being the two top options for receiving, Saca was the No. 1 running back for the Jesuit Marauders scoring 11 of their 25 rushing touchdowns and being named All-Metro second-team offense in 2019. Saca also has great catching ability as some of his best runs were off a pitch from quarterback Daniel Susac. With Saca, Latu, and Lewis, the Marauders are set to have a powerful offense that also includes junior running back Kai Santos and senior wide receiver Jacob Tyrus Hall.

Kimoni Stanley – Sierra

After a 2018 season leading all Sac-Joaquin Section sophomores in rushing yards, Stanley had another phenomenal season during his junior year by leading the entire section in rushing. He set a single-season rushing record and was named to the All-Sac Joaquin first-team offense. Stanley was just one of two juniors named to the section’s first-team offense. The Sierra Timberwolves as a team ranked seventh for the most rushing yards in the section leading the program to their first winning season since 2016. In their five playoff games, Stanley rushed for 817 yards on 78 carries and ran for nine touchdowns.

Among the class of 2021, two-star recruit Christian Ridgeway was one of the top rushers in the section and has a great chance to finish for the most rushing yards in the Delta League this upcoming season after finishing second behind Elk Grove’s Carter Harris in 2019. Ridgeway will be 1 of 21 returning seniors for the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack and they will have the addition of three-star recruit Elijah Christian who transferred from Bradshaw Christian. The Wolfpack and Ridgeway will have a tough season opener Jan. 8 against the Oak Ridge Trojans, one of the best defensive teams in the section.

Despite missing the Kimball Jaguars' first six games in 2019 due to injury, Jackson is rated a two-star recruit and will make a strong case for the top running back in the Valley Oak League this upcoming season. The league includes Kimoni Stanley and Oakdale’s Zeke Saffar. In his first game of the season against the Weston Ranch Cougars, Jackson was the games leading rusher with 103 yards and two touchdowns. He also played in the Jaguars Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV first-round playoff game against the Atwater Falcons averaging 7.7 yards a carry, the highest by any rusher from the Jaguars during the game. Kimball will play their first game against the Tracy Bulldogs on Jan. 8.
