The Atlanta and north Georgia communities love their high school football as well, but there’s just something different about the south Georgia programs. It just means a little more. The players are tough, they play hard, and they love the communities that they represent. They give it their all, and that’s why the region produces some of the best football talent across the country.
Here’s a look at some of the top players in the heated Class 7A Region 1.
Micah Morris Micah Morris 6'5" | 320 lbs | OL Camden County | 2021 State GA – Offensive Line – Camden County
One of the nation’s top offensive line prospects in the 2021 class, the future Georgia Bulldog already looks like an SEC lineman at 6-foot-4 315-pounds. His big, barreled chest, broad shoulders, and overall frame make him a “first guy off the bus” type of player. He certainly looks the part physically, and he has the film to back it up. He’s young for someone in the 2021 class, but he knows how to dominate. He’s excellent in the run game and can overpower most of his opponents at this level. He’s still working on his mechanics, but his ability to pass protect with such raw talent gives a look into how much potential he has. He’s strong, he has great lower body strength, and he plays until the whistle. The Bulldogs may be getting a slight project, but as he develops, he could become a multi-year starter at the next level.
Tyre West – Defensive Line – Tift County
If you’re looking for a young defensive lineman with sky-high potential, look no further than West. The 6-foot-4 270-pounder is still a little raw, but he really flashed last year as a sophomore. He’s quick off the ball and and consistently found his way into the backfield last fall. He does a nice job of shedding blocks and uses his hands well do disrupt a tackle’s pass protection. He still needs to work on his footwork, agility, and lateral quickness, but he still has two years left to continue developing his body and perfecting his craft. He has a solid frame, he has a great motor, and he knows how to hit. If he can continue to develop and add more mobility to his game, he’ll push for 5-star status in the 2022 class.
Jacurri Brown Jacurri Brown 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Lowndes | 2022 State GA – Quarterback – Lowndes
The state of Georgia is loaded at quarterback in the 2022 class, and the south Georgia star from Lowndes is one of the best. Standing at 6-foot-4 205-pounds, Brown has great size to go along with a dynamic skillset. He’s not the fastest guy, but when he decides to run, he shows some elusiveness and the ability to pick up big yards in a hurry. As a passer, it’s easy to see his arm talent from his sophomore film. He’s got a live arm and his accuracy continues to improve. He shows nice pocket presence and the ability to make plays when things break down. He still needs to put on more weight and has to frame to carry it easily. Brown currently holds offers from Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, among others.
Lemeke Brockington Lemeke Brockington 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Colquitt County | 2021 State GA – Wide Receiver – Colquitt County
He may not be the biggest receiver in the state, but he’s certainly one of the biggest playmakers. At 5-foot-11 185-pounds, the future Minnesota Gopher was one of the most productive receivers in the entire state of Georgia in 2019. As a junior, Brockington caught 53 passes for 921 yards and 13 touchdowns. He shows great speed on film and the ability to take it the distance on any particular play. He’s a great downfield threat and an excellent route runner. He has that extra gear that few players posses. He has game-changing type of talent and the Gophers are getting an absolute steal.
