So with that being said, here are five players you should know and add to your watchlist ahead of the ’21 season.
Devin Swift Devin Swift 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Rock Island | 2021 IL , Rock Island ‘21
This was a business trip for Swift. The senior out of Rock Island looked confident and poised the entire night. Displayed his ability to drive the ball deep with impressive arm strength, along with showcasing his accuracy intermediately. He had a certain swagger about himself, a type that let you know that he believes he can compete with the best—and that’s something you can’t teach. I would keep an eye out for D-Swift, his stock is trending upward.
Roderick Pierce III, Brother Rice ‘23
Pierce’s physique and speed are what stood out the most, for his size, and his age, he’s going to be a nightmare once he’s a senior. Showed off a quick and explosive first step that left opposing lineman chasing behind. Has quick and strong hands and works well in tight areas. Was relentless in the pursuit of his target
Jeremiah Johnson Jeremiah Johnson 6'7" | 200 lbs | TE Clinch County | 2021 GA , West Aurora ‘22
Although Johnson was slotted with the RBs, I genuinely believe he would thrive as a slot WR. His speed and quickness were on full display, and he showed great footwork during individual drills. I don’t know if the younger generation still calls it this, but Johnson showed off his leaping ability and flat out “Mossed” someone during 1-on-1’s. One of the best catches I’d seen all night.
Jayden Marquis Jayden Marquis 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Antioch | 2021 IL Antioch ‘21
Every time I saw Jayden, he had a smile on his face, like he was just happy to be there competing with the best. I also saw his leadership qualities on full display. Before the 1-on-1’s kicked off, Jayden was motivating and hyping the DBs up, ensuring everyone was ready to compete at a high level. Whichever school decides to bring Jayden in will be getting a leader who cultivates a winning culture, and of course—a talented DB. Fundamentally sound and his mechanics were on point during individual drills. During 1-on-1’s he accepted every challenge and showed he could cover with the best of them.
