With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Isaac Besh – Denver
Denver might need even more out of Class of 2021 quarterback Isaac Besh this coming fall.
Besh completed 70 of 133 for 840 yards with nine touchdowns, averaging 12 yards per completion. He also ran for 354 yards and scored four times, but the Cyclones lose 1,000-yard rusher Nathan Eggena and their leading receivers.
Jase Pilcher – Jesup
Jesup went 3-6 last year, but the majority of the offense returns led by quarterback Jase Pilcher.
Pilcher, a Class of 2021 prospect, completed 123 of 235 passes for 1,438 yards with 12 touchdowns. He averaged almost 12 yards per completion and had a quarterback rating of almost 104.
In the regular season finale last year, Pilcher completed 12 of 26 for 165 yards with a score, leading the J-Hawks to a 27-6 win over East Marshall.
Colin Muller – Osage
It was a big season for Colin Muller under center for Osage last year.
The Class of 2021 prospect threw for 2,212 yards with 24 touchdowns, leading the Green Devils to five consecutive wins and a spot in the Class 1A playoffs after starting the year 0-4.
Muller threw for 386 yards and five TDs in a win over Lake Mills and was 14-for-18 for 151 yards with a score in a victory vs. Aplington-Parkersburg in the regular season finale.
On the season, he completed 133 of 250, averaging 16 yards per completion with another 121 yards rushing. Muller also averaged 34 yards on 29 punts.
Spencer Mooberry Spencer Mooberry 6'3" | 195 lbs | WR Osage | 2021 IA – Osage
One of the best wrestlers in the Class of 2021, Osage’s Spencer Mooberry Spencer Mooberry 6'3" | 195 lbs | WR Osage | 2021 IA is also quite the football player.
As a junior, Mooberry caught 36 passes for 630 yards with six touchdowns, averaging 17.5 yards per catch. He also ran for 213 yards with a score and made 45 tackles on defense including 6.5 for loss.
Mooberry recently committed to North Dakota State to continue his wrestling career.
Kody VanEngelenburg – Sumner-Fredericksburg
Sumner-Fredericksburg did not throw it all that often, but when they did, Kody VanEngelenburg was the main focus.
VanEngelenburg caught 12 passes for 272 yards, scoring four touchdowns. He averaged almost 23 yards per reception and also carried the ball 11 more times.
On defense, VanEngelenburg picked up 34.5 tackles, recovered two fumbles and averaged 19 yards on kickoff returns.
