After Narrow 2019 Loss, Bolles Is Back Again
It was to be one of those storybook endings for The Bolles School on a Wednesday night in December.
Head Coach Matthew Toblin brought his Bulldogs into Daytona Beach with an 11-game winning streak, coming off an exciting win against Cocoa to get there.
There was no way that the season would end with a loss for this team that had cruised since an opening night loss to crosstown foe Trinity Christian. But victory got away in the closing minutes of the 4A state title game.
With a one-handed catch by senior receiver Edward Arza and an electrifying rally sparked by record-setting junior quarterback Torey Morrison Torey Morrison 5'8" | 160 lbs | QB Miami Booker T. Washington | 2021 FL , Miami Booker T. Washington stormed back from an 11-point deficit to deny Bolles, 25-21.
The first half looked like the Bulldogs would take total command against the 13-2 Tornadoes as sophomore Kade Frew scored three first-half touchdowns and Bolles forced two turnovers to race to a 21-10 lead in the opening half.
But the fourth quarter is when things began to slip away – and a tremendous night turned to agony for a team that had everything going its way.
As 2020 is now here, this is a team loaded with quality talent and plenty of motivation to get back to the title game.
