Woodbine’s Layne Pryor Staying Ready For Football Season

[player_tooltip player_id="23843" first="Layne" last="Pryor"] has taken advantage of the extra time off from school to stay in shape for this upcoming fall.
Pryor, a member of the Class of 2021, will look to lead Woodbine on the football field for his senior season.
Last year, Pryor earned honors after catching 64 passes for 1,044 yards and scoring 21 touchdowns. He was part of a tandem with Brock Leaders led by his brother, quarterback Wyatt Pryor.
"I’ve been lifting and going on runs every day since we have been out of school," Pryor said. "We have a little weight room set up at our house so that has helped a lot.
"I’m really looking forward to get back in the grind with all of my teammates and coaches!"
Leaders and Wyatt Pryor have graduated from a Tiger team that went 4-5 in 2019. They scored over 60 points in four of the first five games including 79 in a win over Ar-We-Va.
Cory Bantam, a junior-to-be, saw time at quarterback, throwing for 364 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 136 yards and even saw time at wide receiver.
For Pryor, his skills are not limited to just the offensive side of the ball.
On defense last year, Pryor recorded 122.5 tackles with 74 being solo stops. He also had 17 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception and recovered a fumble.
"This year I think I will be playing a number of different positions on offense and on defense I will be playing linebacker," Pryor said. "In college I plan on playing linebacker."
Pryor’s recruitment has been "going really good."
"I haven’t been able to visit any schools because of all of the COVID restrictions," he added. "But I have been in contact with many different schools and starting to get a good feeling about where my next step will be."
Woodbine has made three playoff appearances all-time, with the most recent coming in 2004. Pryor was a first team all-stater a year ago at linebacker after earning third team status as a sophomore on offense.
