The state of the country right now during this global pandemic has made recruiting difficult for many players entering their final season. Rutgers has not had much trouble as they have made a push for many of the top players in New Jersey. [player_tooltip player_id="27859" first="Tywone" last="Malone"] and [player_tooltip player_id="27860" first="Aaron" last="Armitage"] are the state’s top two players so their decisions will be big news. Let’s look at some other big name recruits that have not committed yet.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27862" first="George" last="Rooks III"] | St. Peter’s Prep</strong>
St. Peter’s Prep quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="27881" first="Tahj" last="Bullock"] has committed to Virginia Tech. Now the team waits on the announcement from their star defensive tackle. He has narrowed down his list to six teams. They are Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, Boston College, Miami, and Syracuse. Rooks is a big lineman with speed that can come off the edge or plus up the middle.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27863" first="Geno" last="VanDenmark"] | St. Joe’s Montvale</strong>
The behemoth that is VanDenmark is the top ranked offensive lineman in New Jersey. He has over 20 scholarship offers but has recently named a top six. He will lock in on Nebraska, Rutgers, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Arizona State. The 6’6 lineman is as talented as they come. His ceiling is extremely high because of his speed, strength, and control.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27867" first="Mikai" last="Gbayor"] | Irvington</strong>
Gbayor has narrowed his list down to eight. Ole Miss, Kentucky, Rutgers, LSU, Nebraska, Syracuse, Virginia, and West Virginia are all in the running for one of the best linebackers in the Class of 2021. Gbayor is a ball hawk that can make plays at will. One program will get a workhorse that can take over games and be the leader of a defense.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27870" first="Duce" last="Chestnut"] | Camden</strong>
Chestnut has been sought after by schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville, and N.C. State, among others. He is as versatile as they come on the outside. The cornerback has great speed and ball skills. He can line up on the outside or in the slot. Chestnut has the ability to play safety if need be. He is a playmaker that can wreck a game for opposing offenses.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27884" first="Jayson" last="Raines"] | West Orange</strong>
As a junior, Raines caught 47 passes for over 700 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 6’3 receiver is an absolute problem on the outside. He has the ability to enter a program and make noise right away. He has not made a decision yet but he has been in contact often with Pitt. Raines also has interest from Maryland, Miami, Princeton, Rutgers, Yale, Syracuse, and Temple, among others.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27885" first="Jahmir" last="Dooley"] | West Side</strong>
The West Side running back is one of the top three in the state. He is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands. Dooley has the ability to make people miss and is strong enough to break tackles. He is a workhorse that can carry the load for an offense and that is what he will do as a senior for West Side.
