We’ve looked at film, talked to coaches and done in-person evaluations on over 300 prospects across the state. Over the next several weeks, we’ll break down the top 100 players in the 2021 class, and give insight into their spot in the rankings. That being said, here are the guys that landed just inside the top 100.
100. John Anderson John Anderson 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Hough | 2021 State NC , 5’10 170, DB, Hough
Anderson is a physical freak, having just posted a 4.34 40-time. Any other year, a guy like Anderson with offers from Akron and Charlotte would be ranked much higher. This 2021 class is just so deep. Still, Anderson slots in as our No. 15 defensive back with the potential to become one of the best cover corners in the state. At Hough, he plays plenty of stiff competition and one of the better position coaches in the state, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see him rise up the rankings in the near future.
99. Quinton Hill Quinton Hill 6'6" | 190 lbs | DL Havelock | 2021 State NC , 6’6 190, EDGE, Havelock
Quinton Hill Quinton Hill 6'6" | 190 lbs | DL Havelock | 2021 State NC is one of the more physically impressive prospects in the state. At 6’6″ and under 200 pounds, he obviously has the frame to grow this season and going forward. North Carolina Central jumped in with an early offer for the raw edge rusher, but the Eagles be punching above their weight class if they can land Hill, who we believe is a fringe Power Five prospect. Hill makes a lot of plays due to his incredible athleticism, but as he continues to mature and learn the finer details of the game, he’s going to be a top-tier player.
98. Antonio McFadden Antonio McFadden 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Whiteville | 2021 State NC , 6’3 225, TE, Whiteville
A two-way player, we have McFadden listed as a tight end because we see him playing offense in college. McFadden has a combination of size and speed that is rare at the high school level, even though he’s raw. At the moment, McFadden actually plays more defense for the Wolfpack, but entering just his second year of football, we expect him to break out on offense as well. With offers from Georgia State, North Carolina Central and Army in hand, McFadden should secure more scholarship opportunities when college coaches see more of him.
97. Jasaiah Gathings Jasaiah Gathings 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Statesville | 2021 State NC , 6’1 180, WR, Statesville
Gathings is a big-play receiver that can make things happen both after the catch and on deep routes. He perhaps surprised some people when he committed early in the process to FCS powerhouse James Madison over larger schools that had offered him. Regardless, the Dukes are getting a game-changer. Despite not being the largest receiver you’ll ever see, Gathings has no problem going over the middle of the field and is tough to bring down, especially in one-one-one situations.
96. Nic Jones Nic Jones 6'5" | 255 lbs | TE Leesville Road | 2021 State NC , 6’5 230, TE, Leesville Road
Jones is another talented tight end that hasn’t quite reached his ceiling as of yet. Despite his 6’5″, 230-pound frame, he’s still athletic enough to go up and get passes, even though he’s rarely asked to do so in Leesville Road’s run-heavy scheme. He was used heavily as a lead blocker last year and he’s one of the better H-backs we’ve scouted. Without many camps this year, his recruitment could take a little longer to get off the ground, but we think he’s a Division-1 tight end all the way.
