Continue ReadingRunning backs are a crucial part of any offense and can be relied upon heavily in some high school schemes. This position can change the course of the game on just one play by taking a carry or pass 80 yards to the endzone. Some RBs are more dynamic than others because of their speed or ability to get yards after contact. These are some of the running backs with the most impressive big play ability in the 2021 class:
Paul Neel Paul Neel 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Charlotte Catholic | 2021 State NC , RB, 5’10 and 185 lbs, Charlotte Catholic HS
Neel is a patient runner that waits for blocks to develop and is excellent at reading the flow of the defense of any given play. He has great lateral quickness, while also displaying the ability to quickly change direction and accelerate. Neel is a shifty player that can juke defenders out and take the ball the distance. He is best used on outside runs and as a receiver. This RB has 5 offers that include Presbyterian and Dayton.
Nickel Fields Nickel Fields 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Providence Day | 2021 NC , RB, 5’8 and 170 lbs, Providence Day HS:
Fields is a hard running player that will fight for every yard and give everything he’s got on each play. He has good speed that allows him to find the hole and explode through it. Fields uses the jump cut to make defenders miss and is great at setting up his blocks. He is a huge receiving threat that can be lined up in the slot and provide a mismatch. This strong RB has 2 offers from Campbell and Syracuse.
Chavion Smith Chavion Smith 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Statesville | 2021 State NC , 5’9 and 195 lbs, Statesville HS
Smith is a powerful running back that is extremely tough to bring down because of his elite contact balance. He has a unique ability to absorb hits with ease and finishes his runs with force. Smith has quick feet that allow him to be elusive in the open field and make opponents whiff on the tackle. He also has impressive explosiveness that can be seen on his long touchdown runs. This RB currently has 6 offers that include Kentucky, Tennessee, and Akron.
Trevion Cooley Trevion Cooley 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Knightdale | 2021 NC , RB, 5’11 and 208 lbs, Knightdale HS
Cooley is a multi-dimensional running back that can really do everything the position requires. He has excellent vision that allows him to find the open field and make the big play for his team. Cooley breaks the majority of tackles because of his elite strength and requires mutiple defenders to take him to the ground. He possesses great acceleration for his size, uses a nasty stiff arm to elude opponents, and has quick feet in space. Trevion has committed to Louisville but is one of the most impressive players I’ve watched so far.
Davion Nelson Davion Nelson 6'2" | 210 lbs | RB Independence | 2021 State NC , RB, 6’0, 210 lbs, Independence HS
Nelson is an efficient running back that is able to generate first downs at a unique rate. He uses the spin move to make defenders miss and is very good at falling forward at the end of runs. Nelson has excellent speed and the ability to take any carry to the house. He has learned how to squeeze through holes and disguise which direction the run is going to. This underrated RB has 2 offers from Wingate and NC Central.
