DEFENDING 6A STATE CHAMPIONS: Always Competitive Miami Central Reloads With A Number of Elite Prospects In 2020
The Miami Central Rockets are looking for a second consecutive 6A state football title in 2020. This team is loaded once again with big time prospects on both sides of the ball.
It has been a few years for veteran head coach Roland Smith and his Miami Central football team.
Getting to the 6A state finals against Pensacola Escambia was long overdue for a program that set standards in Florida for so many years.
After three years away from the spotlight, the Rockets returned and got their crown back – in huge fashion, 62-27.
While Smith and his staff soaked in he title with a parade and accolades from the community, the focus moved to 2020 – and while there were a number of losses – this is Miami Central – and certainly they’ve rebuilt before.
Like in the past, several key football prospects return along with some new faces, and while there is never any guarantee – this is a team loaded with confidence that they will make the finals once again.
Last year, they defeated Fort Myers Dunbar 38-0 in the regional quarterfinals; beat top seed Naples 56-23 in the regional semifinals; shut down previously unbeaten Fort Lauderdale Dillard, 35-0, in the regional finals; and then in a see-saw battle, got by Palmetto, 34-30, in the state semifinals.
