With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Kody Noble – Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley
The leading rusher for Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley returns in Kody Noble, as he put together nearly a 1,000-yard season a year ago.
Noble carried the ball 147 times for 952 yards, averaging 6.5 yards per attempt. He also found the end zone 12 times, adding 30 receptions for 231 yards and five more scores.
On special teams, Noble averaged nearly 27 yards per kickoff return and another 12.6 on seven punt returns.
Jailen Hansen Jailen Hansen 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Storm Lake | 2021 IA – Storm Lake
There is nothing better for a young quarterback than to have his top receiver back. That is exactly what Storm Lake’s David Soto will get this season in Jailen Hansen Jailen Hansen 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Storm Lake | 2021 IA .
As a junior, Hansen hauled in 27 passes for 491 yards with six touchdowns, averaging over 18 yards per catch. He gives Soto a prime target in the passing attack, while also assisting on defense for the Tornadoes.
Hansen picked off three passes a year ago to lead the team in that category.
Kaden Helt – Sergeant-Bluff Luton
Three players ran for over 300 yards for Sergeant Bluff-Luton last season, and Kaden Helt was one of them.
Helt finished second on the team with 458 yards and six touchdowns on the ground, adding five receptions for 58 yards and another score. Much of the top offensive producers, though, have graduated for the Warriors.
With a new quarterback needing to be brought along, look for Helt to be a nice safety net in the early going to make sure things are fine-tuned on offense.
Colton Hoag – LeMars
There will be plenty of production that needs to be replaced for LeMars this coming fall, and Colton Hoag looks to be a big piece of that.
Hoag caught 25 passes for 403 yards and six scores a year ago, adding another 82 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. He posted over 16 yards per catch, and with leading receiver Aisea Toki gone, that could be his spot to shine.
LeMars also graduated its top rusher, so Hoag will have an opportunity for more carries out of the backfield, as well.
