In Georgia, there is so much talent at each position, it often times gets hard to keep up with each player. Some of these players do not receive as much national attention as others. While these players may have plenty to work on as well, its fair to say that they may be a bit underrated too. In the 2021 class, there are plenty of DB’s within the state of Georgia who have made a name for themselves and have picked up offers, and decided to commit. Here, we will mention a few commits who we feel are a bit underrated compared to the rest.
Ronnie Hamrick II Ronnie Hamrick II 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Parkview | 2021 State GA I (CB)- 6’0 175 Parkview- Committed to UCF
Ronnie Hamrick can easily develop into a great CB for UCF. With that said, they got a steal because Hamrick is a very underrated CB in the 2021 class. The reasons for this is due to his height and size. While he is listed at 6’0, Hamrick appears to be a bit shorter than that, and he does not have as much length to his frame. Despite this, he is not afraid of contact, and has a bit of a pop to him when he makes tackles. He also moves well in man and zone coverage, and this allows him to show of his ball skills as he creates turnovers. perhaps one downside is that Hamrick can be a bit inconsistent out of his pedals, hindering his change of direction at times. His college years will show how much he can progress and develop in this aspect, but for now, we find him to be one of the most underrated defensive player in Georgia’s class of 2021.
Evan Slocum Evan Slocum 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Cartersville | 2021 State GA (S)- 5’10 175 Cartersville- Committed to Wake Forest
One of the first things that jumps out from the film of Evan Slocum Evan Slocum 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Cartersville | 2021 State GA is his footwork and sink/bend. His ability to play at a good level assists his movement skills in coverage. While this can be a strength for him, it can also be seen that every once in a while, he doesn’t play to his fundamentals, causing him to change direction slowly. This could be the reason why many teams passed on him. Wake Forest will love how he has the spacial awareness in coverage and that he is athletic enough to play special teams if necessary. Despite the fact that Slocum can be seen to be an underrated player, when at Wake Forest, he has the chance to play well and prove ACC teams wrong for passing up on him.
Jordan Favors Jordan Favors 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Griffin | 2021 State GA (S)- 5’11 185 Griffin- Committed to Appalachian State
Jordan Favors Jordan Favors 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Griffin | 2021 State GA plays with the preferred tenacity and aggressive attitude that you would want from a defensive player. He is quick in coverage and has ball skills that allow him to make plays. His awareness and burst can prove to be a strength for him at times as well. Along with these things, it can also be seen that he can be a bit tight hipped. This causes Favors to be a bit slow getting out of his pedals, and slow moving in coverage. This is necessary at the next level of play, but at times, he shows flashes of doing these things well. Regardless, Appalachian State managed to pick up a very good, and underrated player who has room for growth and development. If all goes according to plan, he can become a difference maker for their future secondary.
