We have talked about the Trotter Jr.’s and Gentry’s of the world, now its time to take a look at some under the radar prospects who could break out this upcoming season.
Balansama Kamara Balansama Kamara 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Central | 2021 PA – 6’3″, 220lbs, Central
Kamara has hidden gem written all over him. His size is first and foremost his most intriguing trait. There aren’t too many coaches at the next level who wouldn’t want a chance to mold this prospect onto their defense. He already displays the natural instincts and position versatility necessary to be a coach’s dream defender. Kamara is a smart and disciplined tackler who shows nasty pursuit, whether that be into the backfield chasing down a quarterback or sideline to sideline. He’s been given reps at end, as well as tight end on offense while showing the ability to play with his hand in the dirt or off when rushing the passer. Shedding some weight and really chiseling out his build can do wonders for his overall burst which leaves a little to be desired. He weighs in at 220 pounds, which is tied for the second heaviest of all 2021 linebackers.
Tucker Knupp – 6’0″, 205lbs, Greater Latrobe
Knupp is a player every coach would love to have. High effort player who doesn’t mind doing the dirty work, a ferocious hitter who plays downhill and with a full head of steam. He is more of your traditional linebacker who shouldn’t be asked to play in space, primarily shooting the gaps and blowing up run plays in the backfield. Just because the kid isn’t 6’5″ and run a 4.5 doesn’t mean he can’t add value to a team at the next level. He is an aware player who can read and react well. He’s active on the offensive side of the ball as well, serving as the team’s pulling tight end and doing a good job of it too.
Marrick Bauer Marrick Bauer 6'1" | 175 lbs | LB Harbor Creek Senior | 2021 PA – 6’1″, 175lbs, Cathedral Prep
Bauer is an absolute surprise when watching the film. He primarily plays wide receiver on offense and is the extra man in the box on defense, but his game best translates to outside linebacker at the next level. Bauer, weighing just 175 pounds, will shock you with just how much strength he plays with. He can take on and shed tight ends and offensive lineman who are too slow to get their hands in his chest. He is an outstanding athlete who can even return kicks for Cathedral. He moves through traffic at the line of scrimmage with ease. His overall athleticism will land him attention from scouts on the east coast.
