Overview:
Jashawn Johnson Jashawn Johnson 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Hoffman Estates | 2022 State IL is a 5’10, 165 pound WR/DB from Hoffman Estates. As of right now, he’s one of the best-kept secrets in Illinois. We listed him in our 2022 positional rankings as a wide receiver, but the reality is this kid is a legit Division one cornerback as well. From the defensive side, he has loose hips, clean footwork, great recovery speed, and high points the football. From the offensive end, he’s explosive with the ball in his hands, a master of the double move and has home-run deep-threat ability. I forgot to mention; he’s electric as a kick returner as well. Right now, Johnson isn’t getting the recruiting attention he deserves, but that’ll change quickly. This is one of the state’s most talented prospects with Power-5 ability. Tell us a little about yourself, Jashawn and where you’re from?
“I love football; most of my time is spent at a football field. I’m from the south side of Chicago. Then my 6th-grade year, my mom decided we should move out here to Hoffman Estates. I’m glad she decided to move; it was better for me and my family.”
What age did you start playing football & what youth team did you play for?
“I started playing football my 6th grade year I played for the Hoffman RedHawks. When I played in little league, I always played up on the older team. I think that really helped me playing up with older kids because I got used to it, and when I came in high school and was moved up my freshman year, it was kinda normal for me.”
What do you love about football?
“I love football because when I play football, it takes my mind off things when I’m on the football field my mind stays strictly on football. I love the game, and when you’re doing it for something bigger than yourself it makes you grind hard and want it even more.”
How did your sophomore season go for you individually & your team?
“My Sophomore season, I had 800 yards and 12 TDS and started both ways of the ball. I would say I had a good sophomore year. My team did not make it to playoffs. So what I did doesn’t really matter to me if my team didn’t go anywhere in the playoffs. We had a young team last season, so we have a lot of starters returning.”
What goals do you have for the 2020 season?
“My 2020 season, one of my big goals is making a big playoff run and shocking the state. A lot of people overlook my school when it comes to football, but that’s gonna change really soon. A goal I wanna accomplish for myself for the 2020 season is not having a single ball caught on me rather it’s man or zone and having at least a thousand yards.”
What schools are currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers?
“As I know of Michigan, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Nebraska are a few schools that are recruiting me. I have 0 offers, but I’m just patiently waiting on my time to come.”
Do you have a dream school?
“My dream school is definitely Oregon. Growing up, I just always liked them and loved watching them play.”
Are there any of your teammates we should watch for in 2020?
“Yes, Jaelyn Williams, he’s definitely a slept on DB in the state he’s gonna make some noise for Hoffman on the defensive side of the ball. Jesse Billingslea is another name you guys should watch out for; he’s a strong, aggressive, D lineman that can do it all. He’s gonna have a huge impact this upcoming season on the defensive side of the ball.”
What’s something interesting people should know about you?
“Something interesting about me is that I’m never lazy or will never not wanna get up and go play football. I don’t know it just something that drives me to not be lazy when it comes to playing football and putting in work.”
What has your high school coach meant to you?
“My high school coach has meant a lot to me, don’t think I can thank him enough for the things he does for me. As a freshman, he trusted to start on varsity. We have a very good relationship. He constantly stays on top of
