Justin Azure is a 6’3″ 250 pound OL/DL for the Waseca Blue Jays. With that size, he is already difficult to block on on defense, but his athleticism makes it really difficult to slow down. While on offense, he fires out low and really drives the defender off the ball once the ball is snapped. Azure helped the Blue Jays reach the 4A State Semifinals as a Junior, then followed up by making the 3A State Quarterfinals as a Senior. I was able to catch up with him and interview him about his future. Check it out below!
Azure (70)- Barb Hansen
NFN: Hello Justin, tell us a little about yourself and how you started playing football.
Azure: I love to play football! I started playing because of my dad, he guided me into it and made me realize how much I loved it! My family is very important to me. I’m very hardworking and will do anything I set my mind to.
NFN: How was your 2019 Season for you and your team? What’s it like playing for Waseca?
Azure: We dis pretty well this year. We made a lot of improvement throughout the year, making it to the State Quarterfinals. I feel I did pretty well this year. I feel like I became a better player and had a lot of fun! I had an injury in our last game, but I’ve already overcame it and am working again this offseason. I love playing for foe Waseca, we take pride in working hard and being tough, I love that!
NFN: What do you love about the game? What were your expectations for you and your team this season?
Azure: I love playing as a team and trusting everyone around you like a brother. I love playing on the (offensive/defensive) line and driving kids into the ground. I expected to go to State again as a team, we improved a lot over the course of the season to accomplish that. I had high expectations for myself after a good year as a Junior. I felt I had my best year ever as a player and I’m appreciating all the support after being selected into the All-Star game.
NFN: How has your recruiting been going? Who have you been in contact with? What are you looking for in a college program?
Azure: My recruiting has been going alright. I’ve been talking to many D3 schools and three D2 schools (UM-Duluth, St. Cloud State, & Concordia-St. Paul). St. Cloud has offered. I’m looking for a hard working team that cares for the sport and the people around them. I just want the team to put in work and strive to be the best they can be, just like I try to be.
