For the first time in the 2018 season, the top-three teams at all seven levels of Minnesota high school football are unchanged entering the final week of the regular season.
The game of the week was a thriller in Richfield between Holy Angels (NFN No. 2 in 4A) and Waconia (NFN No. 4 in 5A), which went in favor of the Stars. Rook Rowe’s touchdown with less than 30 seconds to play was the difference. The Stars remain at No. 2 in Class AAAA, just behind No. 1 Hutchinson, while the Wildcats dropped to fifth in Class AAAAA. Waconia has another pivotal contest this week against Chanhassen, which is ranked one slot behind the Wildcats at No. 6.
Class AAAAAA’s top-ranked team, Lakeville North, continued to dominate with a 38-3 throttling of Prior Lake. The Panthers, which finish the year against Eagan on Wednesday, have won every game this season by at least 14 points. Elk River, Pierz, Caledonia, Minneota and Spring Grove remain the top teams in the rest of the classes entering MEA-week games.
