BOLD earned the Football University Team of the Week honors for Week 7, using a late flurry of fan votes to overtake Northfield and Rocori (Cold Spring).
The Warriors improved to 7-0 with a dominating 54-0 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Friday. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Sagedahl threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns to lead the onslaught, while Gavin Vosika rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns.
“We knew going into the season that our skill positions were going to be good, but that we needed to replace our line,” said BOLD assistant coach Daren Sagedahl via email. “That's [offensive line] one part of the season that we are pleasantly surprised with.”
The Warriors ended any chance of a Falcons' upset by scoring three touchdowns in four-minute, 46-second span in the first quarter. The defense also extended its season-long, first-quarter dominance, maintaining its shutout streak in the opening 12 minutes.
Coach Sagedahl said the fast starts are a product of the team's commitment to film study throughout the week.
“Our players take a lot of pride into taking their own notes after Friday night's game from watching film, as well as taking notes on the next team we face,” Sagedahl said. “It's a joy going through them with the team during Monday team meetings.”
The early 22-point lead was plenty for the BOLD defense, which registered its second shutout of the season. Devin Gluesing paced the unit with 12 tackles and a half sack.
Northfield's victory over Owatonna earned the Raiders almost 25 percent of the FBU Team of the Week vote to finish second, while Rocori was right behind in third place with 21 percent of the tallies.
