Countdown to Kickoff: East Central and Twin City Subdistrict Favorites
Zimmerman is the clear favorite in the North subdistrict. 14 starters return for coach Tom Kish, led by two-way lineman Justin Robinson.
Three other offensive lineman are also back, and quarterback/defensive back Tommy Laabs might be one of the breakout players in the entire East Central district by season’s end. The Thunder have been knocking on the door of the Class AAAA state tournament the past few seasons, too. Is this the year they finally crack the final eight?
Dan Essler’s New London-Spicer squad will likely be the closest contender to Zimmerman. With an offensive line averaging more than 250 pounds across the front, the Wildcats will go as far as their massive blockers take them.
Junior quarterback Brandon Adelman returns, while the running back position will be filled by either Sam Stageberg or Gideon Mische.
